Racing to Save Lives...Again!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page! I HAVE REACHED MY GOAL AND THE MARATHON IS FAST APPROACHING!!!!!!!!
I'm training for the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA!!!! I'm still going to rock a Full (26.2 mile) marathon on March 21st, 2010 as a member of The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. This is my 5th Marathon! My theme is (Five for 35) as I turned 35 on January 16th. As of February 17th, 2010 I reached $1,900 on my page! Thank you everyone for helping me out!!!!!
I am completing this event in memory of my mother Marguerite "Sauti" Wills who recently lost her battle to ovarian and stomach cancer on February 19, 2010. She was diagnosed August 10th, 2009 just one month after I relocated back to the east coast. She fought a good fight but unfortunately for us the cancer kept spreading. I was with her the day she passed and we talked about everything before she took her last breath. Mom I will run this marathon and FINISH in your memory. I miss and love you always.
We accept all prayers and thoughts at this time. I'm also running in memory of the angels that have passed away...my grandfather, "Papa" Lawrence Wills, Sr. Also my friend Lori's mother who passed away of "multiple myeloma" November 22nd, 2006 her name is Mrs. Linda Roberts and my Great Aunt Harriet Fisher who passed away of complications due to cancer.
They are my personal heroes as well as everyone who is battling cancer...the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Whether it's $25, $50, $75, $100. or even more. Any donation makes a difference! Remember it's never too early to start making tax deductible donations for 2010.
Despite losing Mom I promised to her that I would run this marathon and keep running for cancer. She smiled at me on Friday February the 19th when I made that promise to her. On Saturday, March 6th I completed my last long training run of 18 miles in 4 hours!
The picture of her is from 1993 as she wore her signature African head wrap to my high school graduation. Look at that smile! I feel it all the time now and her spiritual presence. Rest in peace Mommy.
Peace and Love,
Serena
