Team In Training (TNT) exists to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. Many of the treatments doctors and scientists have found helpful in treating Leukemia & Lymphoma are also being used to treat other cancers. So even if you don't know anyone with Leukemia or Lymphoma, chances are you know someone who has been affected by cancer and your donation toward a cure for Leukemia & Lymphoma will be helpful to curing ALL cancers one day!!

TNT is LLS's largest fundraising program!!

I have chosen an event (The Marine Corps Marathon on October 30, 2011) in which I will participate and have pledged to raise at least $1250 during the months that I train for my marathon. My personal goal (besides to finish the race, of course...) is to raise at least $1500.

Other team mates (including my wonderful husband who is also doing The Marine Corps Marathon) will be fundraising and training with me and we have coaches who are volunteering their time to help us along the way.

*

LLS has raised significant funds to aid researchers in their fight to find cures for these diseases. The five-year relative survival rate has nearly quadrupled in the past 48 years for patients with leukemia. Those numbers don't lie! I know that by becoming a member of TNT and helping to raise money for LLS, I am making a difference.

*

Please support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission... Please donate and tell at least one other person about what I am doing. No donation is too small and every bit helps. I am proud to be a part of this wonderful mission that has successfully helped so many people, and I'm sure you will, too!

LI'L UPDATES:

SEPTEMBER 10

16 mile run in Gettysburg! We visited Gettysburg this weekend for our friends Jeff & Heather's wedding. Since they are having an evening wedding, it gave us plenty of time to get in our 16 mile training run today! It was hot out and somewhat miserable since there were no stores on our route from which to buy Gatorade or food of any sort. Running for 2-3 hours drains calories fast!! But we got the miles in and still had the energy to dance the night away as we celebrated with our dear friends on their special day!

August 22

We returned safely from our World Adventure and were able to run about 2-3 times a week most of the time we were gone. We also succeeded in summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, which was likely great training for our lungs hiking at altitude! We have several long runs with TNT coming up and we hope to catch up to their double-digit miles ASAP :)

APRIL 16:

I would sincerely like to thank Harbor Island Marina and the Tiki Bar of Solomon's, MD, for so much help in our "Get Lei'd to help cure cancer" fundraising event on April 15. For the 2nd year in a row we raised significant funds and we could not have done it without you. I am also so, so very grateful to each and every person who contributed to our "GET LEI'D" fundraiser. I know it's tough to trust just anyone you see walking around selling goods for a good cause and we sinceraly appreciate everyone who trusted us and were so generous and giving to LLS. I was able to hand out some slips of paper with our website, so if you're here checking, thank you so much for contributing. We couldn't have done it without you and it feels SO good to be able to help out such a wonderful cause and contribute a significant amount of money toward this.

April 3, 2011

Ran the Cherry Blossom 10 miler. I really wanted to complete it in 1:35 or so, but started 1 wave behind my designated wave- plus with the HUGE crowds I just couldn't get up the momentum to pass enough people and maintain my desired pace. My race time, which includes a 5 min bathroom-break, was 1:47. Hopefully during my training I'll be able to cut that down by a few :)
