Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

5/16/09 -25 weeks till the show

Hey supporters-

Giving you a heads up on my progress. I got a 8 mile run tomorrow. I usually do my big runs on Sundays. I did 8 miles 2 weeks ago for the first time and it was great. No pain or fatigue. I run 5 days a week with Mondays and Fridays being my days off. Its going to be tough next week since I will be in NC for my friends wedding. I will be a groomsmen in it. Congrats to Nate and Ashley!!!! I dont know when I will be able to squeeze in a 9 mile run while Im there but Ill do it. I am averaging about a 9 minute mile nowadays. Started off at around 12 minutes a month ago so I am progressing a lot. I get faster and less tired everyweek.

6/6/09-22 weeks till the show

So today we had our official Team in Training Kick Off Event!!! It was amazing. There were over 600 people there ready to raise money and train for marathons, cycle rides, and triatholons. It was great to meet a lot of people working together for the same cause. They are all excited and ready to help out in every way possible to train and finish the marathon. They are wonderful people. Im so pumped now!! Although I didnt get to meet my mentor, I got to meet my teammates and got a schedule of training for us and we will be meeting up on Saturdays to do our big runs now. So I got to change my big run days, no biggie. Im ready for it. Ill be doing a light 5 mile run tomorrow. I did 9 mile runs the past 2 weeks so this is my recovery run.

8-3-09

--So I did my first 12 mile run on Saturday and it was great!!! I did start feeling it towards the end but I kept pace and my breathing up and did it in 1:59:31!!! Thats a 10 minute mile average for 12 miles people!! I am so excited on how much I progress each week. We ran some of the Marine Corp route so I know what I am up for come October. We ran from west of Georgetown to East Potomac Park and back all along the Potomac river. If anyone knows DC you know thats a loooong way. I have learned the importance of stretching because man I was sore 2 weeks ago when I did my first 10 mile run. Everyone at Team In Training was very helpful and I thank them for having people set up at water stations along the route and providing us with maps of where the heck we were running, lol. I also want to thank those that have donated. You guys are awesome and be sure to tell your friend and family members what I am doing and I could use their support as well. Thanks and love you all

9/22/09

So its been awhile since my last update. We have come along way since then. I am up to 18 miles and we have our last "big" run before the marathon this Saturday. 20 MILES!! Im excited and ready for it. I didnt have too much trouble with 18 miles a few weeks ago. I did it in 3:10:11 which is around my goal of a 10 minute mile. I cramped up a lil on my hamstring towards the end but a little heat and the pain was gone. I am almost at my goal THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!! Keep donating and supporting and I am forever grateful to have such wonderful friends and family.

10/2/09

So we did 20 miles last week!!! I did it in 3:29:09 which is about a 10 1/2 minute mile.....for 20 miles!! I did the first 5 or 6 straight then I incorporated a run walk method which is what I use running during the week. I run for 5 minutes and walk for 1. I did that the other 15 miles and still managed to do a 10.5 minute mile so I cant complain at all. I think for the marathon I will start with the run/walk method and then for the last 6 run it straight. They highly recommend the run/walk so you dont tire yourself out at the end.

Then when I got done running I went to the Braves Nats game with my friends Brad and Jamie (pic below). They came up to visit me for the weekend from NC. After that we went to the Crime and Punishment Museum in downtown DC. Thank god it rained because I had my big umbrella and best believe I was using it as a cane because my legs were jello!! I normally come straight home after a run and rest and heat/ice my knees, not this time. We then went out to dinner and finally got home around 10pm. It was a looooong day. I took my first ice bath Sunday morning to heal my legs, 2 words, ridonkuously incredimazing!! It felt that good. I should of been doing it all along. No pain at all afterwards.

So I only have 6 more days of donating to reach my goal. Only $400 more . I know with the help of friends and family we can reach it!!! Thank you all for donating and continue to get the word out. Its crunch time and Im so thankful to have such wonderful supporters. Keep up your good work and will represent you to the fullest come race day!!

I absoluetely love running!! I used to think people were crazy that ran just to run but its great testing your body to the limits and it releases stress like no other. I highly recommened it. Im starting to read books on running and how to better train.

Thanks for your support

"It's pretty inspiring to read about your ramp up to race day and how running's affected your view about "running for fun." I need a bit of that to rub off on me. Good luck during the Big Day, and I'm honored to be able to support this worthwhile cause!"
