Racing to Save Lives...One Mile at a Time!

Hello and welcome to my fundraising page.
Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every ten minutes someone dies from a blood cancer. Quick math tells us that in the past year 52,560 patients have lost their battle and that 131,400 new ones have been diagnosed. Almost all of us may know someone, family member or a friend, that has battled with some kind of cancer. Some have survived and some have not. There are many scientists doing research to find cure for cancer.
How can we help?
Earlier this year I decided to take an active role to help in finding the cure for blood cancer. So I began training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). This training prepared me for a 100 mile bike race in Lake Tahoe which took place on June 6, 2010.
Before training began in March 2010 I had not ridden a bicyle outside my neighborhood.
I trained 15 hours weekly to prepare the mind, body, learned rules of the game and biking skills to safely and efficiently ride the 100 miles through major elevations at Lake Tahoe; reaching over 6,300 feet. I completed the ride on June 6th and crossed the finish line in 9 hours placing in the top 22 percent.
All of us on Team In Training (TNT) are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Last year (June 7, 2009) in the 100 mile Lake Tahoe race the 1,650 TNT cyclists rode 165,000 miles and they raised $6.8 million dollars for the privilege of doing so. This year I rode with 3,342 cyclists from around the world and it included 1,800 TNT cyclists. We will again reach over $6 million. That's remarkable!
Together we are making a difference!
Donors like you have made new treatment discoveries possible and many cancer patients are living with hope for the cure. My participation in Lake Tahoe 100 miles bike race on June 6, 2010 was in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and your support will help to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
I proudly rode for all the heros and your support kept me strong through the finish line. You have honored me and all the heros with your support. You should have the satisfaction of knowing that you are part of the solution.
Please continue to donate generously to support the efforts to find the cure.
Thank you for your support! Please feel free to add comments when making donation.
I hope you will visit this site from time to time for updates.
Thank you.
