Completing 40 Races During the 40th Year of My Life to Help Put More Candles on LLS Patient's Birthday Cakes
In September 2008, I finished my last race of the season, a Sprint Tri just south of Charlotte and I decided that I wanted to create a year long celebration to support a mission I care deeply about. I wanted to do something that combined my love of sports and races with the passion I have for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, their Mission and incredible work.
Starting in May 2009, I began a series of 40 races, culminating with the 40th race on or around my 40th Birthday in 2010. I am very fortunate to have wonderful family and friends who support me and the ability to complete a variety of races and distances. My dream is to combine my athletic abilities and celebrate the wonderful people in my life by making my 40th year one where I truly give back and help those who are battling blood cancers - and of course honor those who have battled and lost.
I have set a goal of raising at least $40,000 during the next year. I am reaching out to request your support; financially and athletically and to create excitement, energy and have some fun. I invite you to join me in the excitement and fun by joining me for a race or two, or more! Let's celebrate our friendship, get in shape, complete a few races, HAVE A BLAST and most importantly, help find a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma.
I intend to complete:
- 20+ running events from 5K to Marathon,
- 7 +/- cycling events, and
- 10+ triathlons from Sprint to possibly the big enchilada, a Full IronMan.
This way - you have a variety of races to choose from.
Several of these races will be Team in Training supported events, such as
- Tahoe Century Ride, June 7, 2009
- Tri Latta Sprint Tri, June 14, 2009
- Nation's Tri, September 13, 2009
- Kiawah Half Marathon, December 13, 2009
- Just to name a few...
I have created a blog to document the journey I take and to honor the many wonderful people who support me and more importantly the honor patients that I will be completing these races in honor of.
