Well, I can say that my training and my fundraising have brought me to a point where I can jsut focus on this last week before the big event. In this last post, I just want to say a big THANK YOU to all my teammates and coaches with TNT and to everyone who donated to the cause! YOU GUYS TRULY ROCK! Thank you so much for caring enough to help make a difference! I will be posting pictutres and possible video from my event sometime next week. GO TEAM!!!
It's hard to beleive that in less than a month I will be in Kiawah Island, SC to run my first half marathon! It's so exciting, yet still so strange. I am feeling confident! I ran my furthest distance yet this past Friday. I had planned to run my scheduled 8 mile training run, but Coach Polly decided I was ready to run 12 with she and one of my other teammates! I knew I could do it, but I wasn't sure how it would go. Twelve miles sounded so far! I can gladly say that I did it without much effort! My knees were a bit sore after, but I felt great to get so close to my race day mileage! Now I'm ready! 13.1 here I come!
I think my cold is on it's last leg! YAY! We ran our downtown route for the second time, and it was great! The air was cool and crisp this morning...I was quite chilly before I started running, but I quickly warmed up. I had the chance to meet a couple new runners today....one a new teammate and the other a very nice lady named Marcia, who is a seasoned runner and has run 50 or so marathons. It is always great to run with an experienced runner! I love finding mentors to get great advice from and to just have conversation with during the run. I am really enjoying the training, and I want to get faster and go further! GO TEAM!!!!
Bye bye summer, hello sore throat. Not feeling so well tonight, and I have a 6 mile run tomorrow morning. My team is running from Hay St. (downtown) to Morganton Rd (uptown). By uptown I mean up a big, long hill! I am feeling a chanllenge coming on...I just hope my throat is feeling better. I'm off to gargle with salt water and maybe some mouthwash. Then, it's off to bed for me....hope the rest will help! GO TEAM!!!!!
I am so excited, and so happy to share....I ran 6 miles in our training run yesterday! That is the farthest I have ever run, and it was a great accomplishment! I am so grateful to have my TNT friends running along with me on our training days! It is so great to have someone to talk to along the way! Also, we ran on the Cape Fear River Trail, and we saw about 4 deer run across the path in front of us. That is one of the reasons I love that trail.
I am definitely starting to feel more confident as my mileage increases! Thanks to everyone for all your love and encouragement as I race for the finish line! Have a great week ~CP~
When I started this whole thing my max mileage was 2 miles. I am happy to now be able to say...I can run 4 miles straight without feeling like I might pass out at any moment! The thought of running 13.1 miles still seems nuts to me, but I am begining to see that building endurance is not so hard. I am so happy to be increasing my mileage! I am also very happy to get a chance to wear cute running skorts! I have always liked the attire that female tennis players wear, and now I get to run in something very similar ; ) So yay to building endurance and to cute sportswear!
Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, we can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Our honored teammate is Char Nielsen. Char is a survivor of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Char had no family history of cancer, nor did she smoke or drink. At the time she was diagnosed, Char had a 3 year old son who needed his mommy. Thankfully treatments such as chemo and radiation helped Char to fight through this horrible disease, and she has now been cancer free for four years! In addition to Char, I will also be running in honor of a young man who died at the age of 17 after being diagnosed with leukemia. This young man, Cameron Holt, was my husband's best friend. Leukemia and other blood cancers takes a huge toll on the person battling the disease as well as family and friends involved. In honor of Cameron, My husband and I chose to give our firstborn his name. I can't imagine how hard it must be to watch your child battling against cancer. I know it is especially hard for those who lose a loved one to such a disease. Together, we can help stop this life ravaging and in many cases life taking disease. We can help ease the suffering and improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with blood cancers as well as their families and friends. By donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, you can help bring the blood cancer survival rate up tp 100%!Together we can cure cancer!
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
Below is a link to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society website. This link will take you to the research success page. These milestones are made possible by organizations such as team in training an by the thousands of people who donate to the cause. Thank you in advance for donating to continue funding cancer research.

We had our first TNT training run this past Saturday, and we just ran an easy two miles. I volunteered to go and extra two miles with one of my teammates who showed up a little late. I enjoyed the extra training and the time to get to know a new teammate! Hopefully all the training runs will go just as smooth. 13.1 here I come! ; )
