Rise of the Skirtboy (aka Kevin Collins)
Jun 04, 2011
Hey I want to introduce you to Arnie. On the eve of Christmas Eve this five-year-old was rushed to the hospital at 1:15 in the morning where he was diagnosed with ALL. Here he was about to enjoy the best day of the year and instead he's in the hospital. It's bad enough to be sick, really sick, but during the holidays makes it worse. Arnie turned six-years-old in the hospital while in treatment. He is part of our team now and I'll be racing for Arnie as well. Let's make sure Arnie not only spends the next Christmas at home, but has lots more birthdays. That's Arnie on the left and Dominick on the right.
Come on in! Relax. I’m not some high pressured salesman that’s going to brow beat you for a donation. Instead I’m going to tell you what I’m going to do to help Heather and Dominick win their fight with cancer. The question is “what are you willing to do to help?” Once again I will combine my desire for personal suffering with saving lives. The cause is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The pain and suffering is Ironman Arizona held Tempe.
This year I’m racing to honor 24-year-old Heather Miller who has ALL and 7-year-old Dominick Moye who is battling AML. A couple of amazing people worth fighting for and I could go on about each them for a long, long time.
I have two main goals for that day; to finish and to raise $14,060 dollars for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I’ll be on my own for the first goal, but I’ll need some major help from all of you to achieve the second one. Just in case you need an extra incentive to donate, here’s what I’m offering at each fundraising level:
- $2,500 – I will shave both of my legs and keep them shaved until after the race.
- $5,000 – I will wear the Cheetah print skirt for every race this year.
- $7,500 – I will get not one Mohawk, but two ‘hawks.
- $9,000 – The dualing ‘hawks will get bleached. I’ve always thought of being a blonde.
- $10,500 – One of the ‘hawks will be dyed green.
- $12,000 – The other ‘hawk will be dyed purple.
- $14,060 – I will get my fingernails and toe nails painted purple and green.
If this is what I’m willing to do, what are you willing to give?
No matter how much discomfort, pain or agony I experience during training or the race, nothing can compare to a child’s suffering with a blood cancer. I choose this pain, it’s only temporary and the glory (as well as my ego) last forever. Their only choice is to wake up, face another day and hope to get well. Will you help me help them?
Thanks for stopping by and for your support!
