WELCOME!!!
UPDATE....I DID IT!! YES! YES! YES!!! Once again, I ran the streets of Arlington & DC, Beat the Bridge and charged up the hill to the Iwo to get my FINISHER MEDAL!! Thank you to all of you who supported me in this journey. It means a lot to me. God bless!!
What my page said before the race occurred....
Yes, I am back at it. Enjoyed the experience so much the first time around that I had to do it again. On October 28, I will be running the streets of our Nation's Capital, participating in the Marine Corps Marathon, again.
As some of you know I ran MCM in 2010 and I am very proud to say that I a FINISHER medal hanging up on the wall at my house :-}. Completing that race is one of the hardest things I've ever done, mainly due to my injury. However, it is one of the most rewarding and I am looking forward to experiencing sheer joy once again when I cross that finish line.
Once again, I am training with Team in Training(TNT) which is a comprehensive training program for runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). TNT’s mission is to help save lives one mile at a time! I LOVE TNT and all that it stands for so I am honored to be able to train with this wonderful group of women and men once again.
In 2010, I ran my race in memory of my beloved grandparents LM & Margaret Lockhart, whom both battled cancer, my "grandma" Mrs. Lit who fought cancer as hard as she could and my courageous cousin Akia, whose her life was cut short at the age of 18 due to her battle with lymphoma. I also ran in honor of my friend Quincy Pedew, who at the time was fighting leukemia. Today I can happily report, that he has won his battle and is cancer free!! This year I will once again run in their memory and honor as well as run in honor of my friends Laura Wooten, Trinita Johnson & Maria Tyson. This is why I do what I do.
This marathon is NOT about me. It is much bigger than me. It is about the people I just named as well as those who are, have or will fight a blood cancer at some point in their life. As a person who always tried to be sympathetic to others needs and their situations, this is my way of showing these courageous women, men and children that they are not in this alone.
My fundraising goal has been set at $2,250. I fully intend to EXCEED this goal. However, I can not do this without YOU! I know all of you can not take time out of your busy schedules to prepare for a marathon but you can make a difference by donating and by asking people you know to donate as well. 75% of the money spent by LLS goes towards the mission.
To donate online, click on the donate now button on your right and input your information. All donations are 100% tax deductible and are eligible to be matched by corporations and businesses. Ask them to match your donation. Most businesses jump at the chance to promote their company especially for a good cause. If you need a corporate donor match form, would like to mail a donation or you have any questions, email me at NCRoadRunner1947@yahoo.com. All donations are due by SEPTEMBER 30.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thank you for your support!!
