Yesterday, May 14, we were at the top of our training regimen. Our team ran 20 miles on the American Tobacco Trail in Apex, NC. A sandy, fine gravel trail largely covered by trees-just beautiful! The part I liked the most is that it is pretty darn flat. So from here on out until June 5, we taper. At this very moment in time I don't feel like I need a taper or have stuck to my training plan well enough to deserve one. I mention this because my bad feelings only stick around for a second or two. I mention this because it may help you if you're thinking you'd love to lend a helping hand by training for an endurance event but simply don't have the time. Well, listen up! You can do it. You put in what you can and push yourself when you can but most of all you have FUN with it. I knew I could do 20 miles whether it was walking or running. And truth be told, I walked more than I wanted to yesterday but overall I simply had a blast. I've already wondered to myself would I sign on again in the future. This tells me I must be enjoying myself: enjoying the scenery, enjoying the participants, enjoying the cause, enjoying the hardwork!
I may have said this awhile back but it's important enough for repeating. Team in Training has it all: an endurance event, a social network, certified coaches, and most importantly a wonderful cause: to help find a cure for Cancer!
30 days left of training before the BIG day!
I'm really getting excited now that I'm feeling halfway normal again after a big case of Poison ivy! Think Prednisone, Cortisone, Benadryl and Calamine lotion x 3 weeks. Yes, the stuff loves to hang around. Due to the Prednisone, I came down with a horrible cold that lasted all weekend. But I realize this is nothing compared to those battling Cancer.
I am thankful that I have the ability to run (even if slow) and to do so on the behalf of those too sick to do so. Hopefully, the home stretch will be injury and stress-free!!!
Why give to LLS? Why Invest Now?
Many scientists, clinicians and clinical trial participants have developed and improved current standards of care over time. It takes about eight years to develop a successful new drug. The time to invest in new therapies is now. I am still looking for several special people who would be willing to donate a few dollars to help cure Cancer. You can donate online right this very minute!!
What Will My Donation Do?
Encourage scientists to pursue blood cancer research. Grants to young scientists help grow research talent even as federal research funding becomes increasingly limited.
Develop "targeted therapies" that kill cancer cells selectively. By hitting specific molecular targets, these treatments don't harm patients' healthy cells, resulting in fewer dangerous side effects. For more info, check out www.lls.org!
Just saw this question floating around and it really made me stop and ponder for awhile. I am hoping it will do the same for you! If you're reading this all you need to know is that I'm training for my first marathon AND raising money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The money goes toward research on finding a cure for Cancer. Any kind of Cancer-not just blood cancers and perhaps a cure for another illness. Any amount donated brings us one step closer to finding a cure. Already, great strides have been made. Sick patients take fewer medications at lower doses all because of research. There is now on the market an oral chemo drug because of giving people like you who thought enough to make a donation. Do something wonderful today-donate any amount to my campaign!! All my appreciation, JuLie!
Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38
I'm a little over 25% of my goal. I am only here because of friends and family who have so thoughtfully given. And I know that I can only reach my goal with the help of those with a heart to give. Please consider donating to LLS to help find a cure for cancer. You never know, researching for cancer may lead to new discoveries in other disorders or illnesses. There are thousands sick and fighting for another day-please donate today!
