Chris Team in Training

Who is the Little Guy???

An estimated 894,543 Americans are living with leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes.

Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma will cause the deaths of an estimated 52,910 people in the United States this year.

Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has saved thousands of lives through funding groundbreaking research that has lead to discoveries such as Gleevec.

Team in Training raised over $71 million in 2008.

73% of every dollar donated goes towards helping people suffering from blood cancers.

100% of your donation is tax deductible!!!

Why Am I doing This???

April 12, 2006 I drove Sara, my girlfriend of 5 months, to Tupelo to see her dad John. He was waking up from a biopsy. Shortly after we arrived we learned that John had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. We spent the next 7 months watching, hoping, praying, and doing anything we could as John underwent treatment. The most remarkable part is that it was only 7 months. Before the 60's Hodgkin's Lymphoma was almost always fatal, today it is nearly always curable. John's recovery is a remarkable example of the medical breakthroughs and the tremendous support of the cancer community. Like it or not we are all a part of the cancer community. The medical professionals could never be successful without community support.

Team in Training plays a large part of the cancer community. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has invested over $600 million in cancer research. In 2008, Team in Training raised $71 million in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, all of which was donated a just few dollars at a time.

What Am I Doing

I will be participating in America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride on June 6, 2009. This is a 100 mile (century) bicycle ride around Lake Tahoe. This is the same 100 mile ride that John competed in 14 months after he was diagnosed with cancer. It was a tremendous experience to see John not only beat cancer, but beat 100 miles of mountain terrain. This year he faces a new challenge, me and Sara. John has volunteered to be the local Team in Training cycling coach. Join us for the fun as Sara and I prepare for our first Century. Check back often. We will be posting updates on our training and more importantly, our fundraising efforts. Together we can help Leukemia & Lymphoma Society beat cancer.
