Welcome to our Team In Training home page.
Kim and Sue are training to complete the Nike Women's Half Marathon on Oct. 17, 2010. While Kim is not exactly new to endurance events, Sue is definitely a newbie and looking forward to the challenge this year will bring. As members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training we are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We are training in memory of those we've lost and in honor of those still battling.
Please make a donation to support our participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
Update 9.27 - Tour de North Saint Paul
Sue finished her first ever race, a 5k called Tour de North Saint Paul. We (Kim & Sue) started and finished together. It was a ton of fun and Sue totally rocked it, in fact she really picked up the speed the last half mile and was practically sprinting at the finish. I was SUPER proud of her! We are only a few weeks out from the race and the excitement is building. Go Team!
Update 9.7 - Kimmi's thoughts
Oh dear, we are a mere 6 weeks away from race day! Hard to imagine! Especially since I feel like I could use a few more months to just settle into training...with my injury I haven't been able to run regularly, so this whole season has been surreal. It's both fun and odd to hear about my mom running 8 or 9 miles when I'm barely going 6 without wheezing!
I am more than ready to head to San Francisco though! I'm excited to travel with my mom and watch her experience Team travel for the first time. It's such a rewarding experience after 5 or 6 months of hard work!
We're a mere $822 away from our goal...Woot woot! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! On behalf of LLS we greatly appreciate it!
Update 8.6 - Sue's Update...
I am very happy that I completed an 8 mile run. I did walk less than I needed to walk in the past. I am definitely becoming stronger and working on my pacing at this point. I am understanding and adjusting to what I need to eat before a run and likewise after a run. All in all, my training is going well as I have fantastic knowledgeable coaches and I am meeting wonderful training partners.
Kimmi's Update...
The best part of this season is watching my mom transform into a runner. I love hearing her stories about training, her unquenchable hunger, and the excitment of hitting a new distance. I'm extremely proud of her, Go Mom!
Update 7.10 - Two months in...
We're two months into training and the mileage is getting higher. Training took a minor hit during the end of June b/c my brother and Michelle got married...woot woot! Last minute details and lots of family in town made it difficult to get out for a run or do any cross training, but we're back on track.
Update 6.22 - Another reason to raise money - Kimmi's Update
I was in Yosemite National Park this last week for work and met Terri, a hilarious woman from Chicago participating in the Illinois Chapter of TNT. The shirt she wore on event day speaks volumes toward her personality. In August, Terri will hit 5 years in remission. She battled two types of leukemia in 2005. She spent 10 days and 10 hours in a coma as a result of her treatment and when she came out of it she was told she would never walk again. She's come a hell of a long way and hiked in both the Grand Canyon in 2009 and Yosemite this last weekend to raise money for LLS. Rock on Terri!
Update 6.9 – Kimmi’s Update
This past weekend I was in San Diego assisting with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & Half Marathon team. The best part of the weekend by far was learning that the 4,000 TNT participants at the event raised over $12 million for LLS! The MN chapter raised over $265,000 and counting. The team had a complete blast and it got me really excited for Nike in October.
In other news I have been cleared to bike finally, and I hope to add running back into my training in July. Until then I’ll keep water running to maintain my cardio.
Update 6.1 - Sue's Update:
I am happy with my training so far. It is great to be taking this on with Kim. Last week we did push up and well, that is interesting to say the least! It is amazing what you can accomplish when you try and I keep plugging away. The team spirit is fantastic and really helps push me. The running is totally new for me and certainly a challenge. When I started training as each day passed I felt stronger and it continues to this day. I really like feeling stronger. Thank you for your support! Go team!
Visit our web site often to check in on our progress. Thank you for all of your support, this will truly be an adventure!
