Welcome to my Team In Training home page!

DEADLINE TODAY!
After 17 long weeks, we have come almost to the conclusion of this adventure. The South Maui Triathlon is in two weeks! We are now in the "taper" phase of training, when we exercise less so that our bodies can rest and be fully prepared for race day. I cannot relax yet though, because the fundraising is not over yet!
May I tempt you with the following?
For donors in the Twin Cities area, $15 will get you homemade bake-at-home chocolate chip cookie dough! $25 will get two dozen chocolate cupcakes. People who donate $100 will receive two dozen homemade cookies delivered directly to their door along with a pint of vanilla ice cream. Sound good?
Go Team!

So close to the end! I need to make a big push in these last weeks though, both in my training and in fundraising. Therefore, next Tuesday May 25th I am going to run hill repeats in Stillwater. To be specific, hill repeats on Myrtle! For every $500 raised between now and then, I will run from the Gazebo to the top of Myrtle and back one time. Can you help me make this huge push? For $3,000 I will do it SIX times! Crazy? Yes! But to help the thousands of blood cancer patients and their families helped by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society every year, it will be worth it!
Check out mapmyrun.com to see my route. Check the "show elevation" box to get a sense of just what a task this is going to be. :)

To those who have already donated, THANK YOU!!! Your contribution will go to helping the 912,938 Americans presently living with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma. If you are here for the first time, welcome!
Why am I supporting LLS? Because of these sobering statistics: Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20. Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers and incidence increases with age. The survival rate for myeloma is only 37.1 percent.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the single largest funder of blood cancer research, and rigorously selects the most promising research to find new treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma as quickly as possible. LLS also provides education and patient services, such as co-pay assistance for cancer patients who are unable to pay for their treatment.

At a teammate's suggestion, I have started up my blog again. I previously was blogging about my New Zealand and Japan adventures. This new adventure is blog-worthy too though, I think. Check it out.

Man, spin kicked my butt yesterday! I purchased a pair of bike shoes on Ebay, so cycling should actually get easier soon. I can't wait to get out on my bike with clipless pedals. I shall ride like the wind.
I won't be able to make the team swim practice for the next few weeks, so I am taking private lessons with the aquatic director at the YMCA. She took a video of me swimming, and I have to say I looked terrible. But she started me working on some rotation drills to make my stroke as efficient as possible. I'm planning to swim later this morning, and I hope it will go better than before I started the rotation drills.
I have been running, but only about twice a week. The major limiting factor is time. I have three events to work on, and they're all equally important, but I only have so many hours in the day. Ah, if only I didn't need sleep.
Rock on!

I bought a bike today! The weather was absolutely beautiful. Sunny and 40 degrees? Shorts weather. Kraus at Re-Cycle bike shop on Hennepin Ave in Minneapolis hooked me up with a sweet late '80s/early '90s "Performance Vitesse" road bike. I took it for a spin around Calhoun an hour before sunset. Beautiful.
Swimming has been... okay. At Team practice on Tuesday night I had to stop and get out of the pool because my body was completely sapped of energy. I've been trying to eat more vegetables lately, and when I eat more vegetables I'm also eating fewer grains and don't get enough carbohydrates to exercise effectively. Fortunately my sister is studying to be a dietician, and she's going to help me figure out how to add in more vegetables while also getting enough calories to keep me performing.
And now, to bed. Good night!

Today I am starting an amazing journey: four months from now I will be traveling to Maui to compete in the South Maui Triathlon along with my fellow Team In Training members. We are raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are
the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the
ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a
donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance
LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
