Well, it's that time again. I'm now preparing for my third team event in honor of my best friend Michelle who lost her battle in July 2012 after fighting leukemia THREE times. Just because Michelle is at peace, there are thousands out there fighting everyday just to live.

Unlike the previous two events I will not be marathoning. This time, I've accepted the challange of doing my first Centurary Ride. On October 5, I will cycle 100 miles in Springfield, MO in the Tour de Bass, all for the cause of helping find a cure for blood cancer.

Did you know??

• A gift of $100 will fund a Society laboratory researcher for one day with supplies and materials critical to carrying out his/her search for cures.
• A gift of $500 will test seven people as potential bone marrow donors. 
• A gift of $150 will allow the Mid-America Chapter to reimburse one family for medical expenses for one year. 
• A gift of $1000 will provide ten children with a one-month supply of medication.

Why should you help??

• Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. 
• Leukemia causes almost one-third of all cancer deaths in children and adolescents younger than 15 years. 
• It is estimated that leukemia and its related cancers, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and myeloma strike 149,990 Americans each year and account for 9.4% of cancer related deaths.    
• Every week, there are more than 2,600 new cases of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma diagnosed in this country. 
• Every day, approximately 150 Americans die of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
• Today, 85% of children with leukemia will survive thanks to the research funded by people involved in projects like Team In Training® . 
• Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. 
• Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma will cause the deaths of an estimated 54,630 people in the United States this year. 
• Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents 150 people each day or nearly six people every hour.
