The last few weeks of training have been particularly challenging! I have had a little set back in the form of a very sore right knee. I've met with my primary care physician, sports med chiropractor, and orthopedic specialist to try to figure out what seems to be the problem. During that time I've also had to take a break from running - which was very very difficult! I've been hittnig the pool to swim for keeping up endurance, but also giving my knee a rest. But, I am still very dedicated to reaching my goal of crossing that finish line in San Diego - and as of right now that finish line is only 9 DAYS away!!
Today I got some great news!! I had the official thumbs up from my docs to participate in the marathon. I'll have to wear a knee brace, and my pace will be much slower, but I am still going to focus on just completing my goal.
I can't express enough THANKS for all the friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors who have been supportive during my injury. I was able to meet my minimum fundraising goal of $3000 - but I don't want to stop there. Every dollor makes a difference in the fight to cure blood cancers - so until the FINAL DONATION DEADLINE of MAY 30 I will continue to raise funds for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you haven't made a donation yet - PLEASE DO NOW :)
Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon June 3 - HERE I COME!!!
Wow this training has been intense! I can't believe all the miles I've run, and all the wonderful support I have received from friends and familiy. The big event is getting so close and I am also SOOOO close to my fundraising goal. Of course I can't wait to cross the finish line, and be able to say "I ran a marathon." But more importantly, I want to say, "I did it! I raised $3000 to help in the fight against blood cancers."
I can't wait to step across that finish line and know that all those miles are behind me, and that the hope for a cure is right in front of me! Please help me cross the finish line to a CURE!!
I will run the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon on June 3!! That is just 33 days away (yikes)!! Right now I am only $320 away from my goal!! Please help support me and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in any way you can! Just like in the marathon, every step counts - Every dollar counts in the step towards a CURE!
I am proud to be a part of reaching two great goals - Running a marathon, and helping to support research and support for people with blood cancers.
As part of being involved in Team in Training for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society I have promised to:
- Raise $3000
- Run a total of 311 miles. That is from the first lace-up-and-hit-the-pavement training run, to the final mile of the San Diego marathon on June 3.
But I also joined Team, because I know that these are promises and goals that I can't complete on my own.
I need you!!
I need your support, encouragement, and donations to help me cross that finish line, and to help us all find a CURE.
Please consider how you could help. Just think that by passing up on one lunch out, you could spend $10 to change the lives of cancer patients and their families. It doesn't take a lot, but if we all pitch in WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
I joined Team in Training not because I wanted to complete a marathon - even though this is a personal goal of mine - but I wanted to support this cause. I am currently working with a Blood and Marrow Transplant team - and we treat people who have Leukemias, Lymphomas, and Myelomas.
These are not patients in isolation. They are grandparents fighting to see their grandkids graduate from high school. They are newlyweds trying to start a life without chemo. They are teenagers picking out wigs to wear to prom.
They need your support and so do I!! Just as I tell these patients that they can't do this alone, and that their friends, family, and medical team are here to help - I can't do this alone either. I too need help from you!!
A lot of times we want to help with a cause like this, but we don't have the time to volunteer, or the expertise to research cancer fighting drugs - but with a donation you can make difference. Team in Training donations have been the sole funders for some break-through treatments - and you could bring us closer to beating blood cancers once and for all!!
Donate Today!!!
UPDATE: The Valentines Day event was a HUGE success thanks to the support of so many great people. I had sponsors for 75 patients!!!! It was great to brighten the day for so many people. I even had the privilege to deliver to a Valentine to a woman who was just told she her cancer was growing and treatment was not working. She told me that today was likely her last Valentine's Day, and she didn't think she would get a Valentine today. This is why I am doing Teams in Training. To support these patients, and to support research that will heal and improve the lives of many people.
As part of my Teams in Training fundraising I am doing a very special Valentine's program. For every $10 donation made I will be delivering a Valentine note and candy to a cancer patient who is getting chemo. My goal is to reach 50 patients!!
Please help in any way you can, and feel free to forward this link on to your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, manicurists, car salesmen, babysitters ......
Let's make Valentine's Day a little brighter for some very deserving people :)
