Dear Friends:
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
I completed my 4 months of training to prepare for my first half marathon. Race day was Sunday - May 31 in San Diego! I couldn't have gotten there without you. Please accept my sincere gratitude for all your support, both financial and moral, it is so greatly appreciated!
The race was more than I could have ever imagined. I can't wait to do another one! Running with approximately 23,000 people was incredible and everyone was so encouraging along the way. Who knew doing something like this would be so fun and feel so good!
Thanks again for everything. You all are awesome!
~Pam

Training updates:

May 19 - Only 12 more days until my race day - my first half marathon. Over the last few days I have looked back on the several months of training and am amazed at how far I have come. I've gone from NEVER running in my life, to running 12 miles. WOW! I am thrilled, amazed and shocked. I never thought I could do something like this and am so thankful that I took on this challenge.
I have this weeks training of 5 miles and then the race is here. I am seriously looking for the "next race". I feel if I stop now, I will be letting down those that don't get the opportunity to stop their race for life. I have many friends fighting cancers of many different kinds. As long as they are fighting, I will be too. I know I will be running in the 5K race for Lung Cancer in September (here in KC) and am still seeking out the next half marathon.
While my current challenge of the Half Marathon in San Diego is nearing an end, I still feel we need to do more. Still need to raise additional funds to help find a cure. Won't you help by donating today or passing this website along to your friends and family? Together, we will work to help find a cure.
May 7 - I was able to go 12 miles today! Feels good and now I know that I can comfortably do the 13.1 on race day! Only 2 more training weeks until race day and they will be easy runs (compared to today's). Can hardly wait to be in San Diego!
May 5 - This thursday, I will be running my longest run yet - 10 miles. I am ready! I ran 9 miles 2 weeks ago and felt great after that one and am anticipating the same for this weeks run. I've even given thought to running an additional 3 miles if I am feeling good after the 10, so that I know how my body will respond and be even more prepared for the big race. I'm very excited about this weeks run! Only 3 more training runs left before race day - 5/7 (10mi); 5/14 (6mi); 5/21 (5mi); RACE DAY 13.1.
April 11 - Training this weekend was back out at Shawnee Mission Park and we were scheduled to run 8 miles and we started at 6:30 AM! We started at the marina and rounded the dam to run up the first of many big hills - what a way to start! :-) After that big hill, we head on to the trails. Deer were everywhere. There was even one point in the trail that they were right next to the trail - I could have touched them as I passed! They just stood there watching as we ran by and then went about their breakfast. It was a beautiful morning to run. After 8 miles, I now have the confidence that I will be able to endure the 13.1 that will face me in San Diego. I have been fortunate to have not had any injuries during my training - not even a pulled muscle.
Only 6 more weeks of training for the big day! The miles I will be running the next 6 weeks are: 4/16 - 5mi; 4/23 - 9mi; 4/30 - 5mi; 5/7 - 10mi; 5/14 - 6mi; 5/21 - 5mi; 5/28 - rest; 5/31 -13.1mi.
(by the way, I've changed my long training run's to Thursday's instead of Saturday's because of work schedule). **I've just looked over the blog below and am amazed at my accomplishments in just 2
1/2 months - the thought that my first run was 3 miles and now I'm up to 8! Who would have ever thought that I would be doing something like this AND ENJOYING IT! Thanks to everyone for their support of LLS and support of me! It means a lot to me! Thank you so very much!!
April 2 - Pizza Shoppe night was a lot of fun. Enjoyed dinner with good friends. Thanks to everyone who stopped by. I'm fueled up and ready for a big run on Saturday!
March 28 - training is to be 7 miles! Praying for no snow!! :-) Training was cancelled due to weather. I miss not running on saturday!
March 21 - What a beautiful morning for a run! We were out at Longview Lake running on the trail around the lake for 4 miles. Lots of fun!
March 14 - Had a great training run today. Weather started out a little cool, but I quickly realized you warm up when running 6 miles! Then you feel so good, you do a few more! We did our training on the same course that the Trolley Run takes place on. It was a great day!
Feb 28 - Our weekly training was to meet at Quivira Park and to run 5 miles. While I heard it was fun to run in the snow, I opted for a 5 mile run at the gym. While I was running and thinking how hard this is, I was reminded of those that are fighting for their lives. Those that don't get the option of stopping when they have completed the weekly training. This kept me going and will keep me going during my training and the race in May. Wouldn't it be nice if we all could have the option of just resting at the end of our "race"? Join me by donating today to help find the cure for cancers.
Feb 10 - Raffle items being collected for fundraiser drawing: For every $25 in donations, you will receive an entry into the drawing. Raffle items consist of: Garmin Nuvi 200W; DVD Player; Oklahoma Joes BBQ Gift Basket; Rachael Ray 8" Skillet (orange) and Rachael Ray 2-piece set: Lazy Spoon & Lazy Ladle (orange).; Author Caryn Gottlieb FitzGerald gift pack (http://carynfitzgerald.com/giftpack.htm) ~ Check back for new items being added to the raffle! Drawing will be held March 16th.
Feb 7 - Completed my first ever 3 mile run. Boy did I feel good after it was done!

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the San Diego Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of Tami Nichols and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
This is where I need your help. In order for me to do this I must raise $6,000. Please know your donation is not a personal donation to "me". It is a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphomia Society and 100% of your donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
Please help me in this great challenge by contributing as generously as you can to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If every person I sent a letter to would donate at least $25, my goal of $6,000 would be realized. However, whatever you can contribute matters... whether it is $10, $25, $50, $250, or more, it all adds up. Your contribution will make a difference!
I am doing this event in memory and in honor of people important in my life. I'd also like to give my donors the option to donate in someone's honor or memory. If you would like to donate in the name of a cancer survivor or in memory of someone please let me know. I
will print the name of the person you are donating for on a ribbon
to be worn on race day during the San Diego Half Marathon. Hopefully I will have lots of photos to share after the race! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
