Racing to Save Lives
June 23, 2010:
3 more sleeps til the Race! I can't believe it's here already. I feel like I just sat in the kick-off meeting in Conshohocken...
I've personally raised over $3,000, and combined the Eastern PA Chapter of TNT has raised $150,000! What a great accomplishment for such a great cause - and you all were a huge part of our success!
Now I just have to make it out of the water, complete 2 8 mile laps through Fairmount Park, and crawl my way over the finish line on Saturday morning. I could not have done it without the tremendous support from family & friends.
If you never hear from me again - I didn't make it. But hopefully the Schuylkill spits me out onto my bike safe and sound.
I'll let you all know how I did....as long as I don't come in last :)

Welcome to my Team in Training Homepage!
Back in January, I got "suckered" into attending an informational meeting about participating in the Philly Triathlon coming up this summer. I committed only to the meeting, with little intention of actually signing up for the race...
A few weeks later - I attended the 2010 Kick Off Meeting as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training Philly Tri Team, and I'm now training to participate in my very first endurance event!
I am racing in memory of the father of a friend and co-worker of mine, Joe Oriolo, who passed away from multiple myeloma in September 2008. While I never had the pleasure of being a personal acquaintance of Mr. Oriolo's, Kari has shared some wonderful memories of her dad, and I'm honored to call him my Team Hero. Plus - you can always judge a man by the character of his offspring :)
Members of Team in Training nationwide are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Race Day is Saturday, June 26th. In addition to spending the next 3+ months whipping myself into sprint tri-shape, I'll be mentally preparing myself to swim a half mile in the Schuylkill!!

UPDATE: May 7, 2010
Well, I'm exactly one month from my fundraising deadline and 50 days from the actual race! Can't believe how fast time flies...
I've started my transition training (meaning that I go from swim to bike, bike to run, bike to run, swim to run, etc) to build up my endurance. I have a practice event on June 12th with my TNT mentor in Bear, DE. It's only 1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike, and 2 mile run so it will be great for me to get the jitters out/judge what the full sprint on the 26th will be.
