Running to Save Lives

Yes-I'm at it again! I am training to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco on October 19th, 2008 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. I've actually recruited my best friend Karen to run with me in her very first marathon! If you don't donate to this great cause, I'm calling on you next to run with me!

My Honored Patient is Ashley Anderson. She is 12 years old and in the 7th grade. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in May 2006. Although today she is in remission, she is currently going through a battery of tests to see if the cancer has returned. She is having some of the same side effects today that she was having when she was diagnosed in 2006. Please visit Ashley's Caring Bridge site at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ashleynicoleanderson.

As this will be my 14th marathon, you all know I can do this with my eyes closed-almost, but I am asking for you to help Ashley and so many others like her with the fight of their life. Your donation goes to help research, patient and family services, education, bone marrow testing and so much more. Lets get this blood cancer crap knocked out so I can stop running marathons!

Check back for updates on training, Ashley's progress and upcoming events.

Updates:

6.1.08-Kick Off! We have the biggest team yet! This is going to be a great session! Ran the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon today!

6.14.08-Scheduled for an 8 mile run-but how about running the Hospital Hill Half Marathon instead? A week after running the San Diego Marathon...okay!

6.16.08-Met Ashley and her family today for dinner. She spent the whole day at the hospital taking tests to see if the cancer may have relapsed when this 12 year old little girl should be at the pool.

6.18.08-Need something to spice up that black shirt of yours? How about checking out Premier Designs jewelry. There will be an open house June 22nd where I receive 25% of all items towards my fundraising. Let me know if you're interested in coming or would like to see a catalog to order something good!

6.21.08-Ran 6 miles with the team this morning. It was a nice morning but a bit warm for as early as it was. Doug is in Anchorage with the team and as I type here at 5:00 pm, he is probably running team members in to the finish line. (It's 2:00pm in Anchorage and the race didn't start until 8:00 am). Today also is the one year anniversary of Kaylee being diagnosed with leukemia. Kaylee was my honored patient for the marathon I ran in San Diego in June. She seems to be doing well, but as always, they are keeping a close eye on her. Keep her and Ashley in your thoughts and prayers.

7.7.08-It's been a while since I've updated. Saturday we ran 8 miles, the past Saturday we ran 10 miles. It's that time of year when it's soooo hot-even so early in the morning. You just sweat-sweat-and sweat some more. And Coach Doug-has us running hills-hills-and more hills for the Kansas City and San Francisco teams. Whew! It's fun though and we keep trekking on.
