Train - Endure - Achieve - Matter

Dearest family members and friends,

Happy New Year! I trust your year is off to a great start and this letter finds you well. As you have probably guessed, I have taken on the challenge once again to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This is my seventh endurance event with the Team in Training program. I will compete in the Whirlpool Half Ironman Triathlon being held July 31, 2010 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. My challenge will consist of swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles and ending with a 13.1 mile run.

My inspiration to complete this triathlon comes from my family. My mother Elvira lost her battle to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2004. My brother Bob was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s in 2005. (I am honored to report Bob is nearing his fifth year cancer free.) I unfortunately have two good friends Audrey and Oscar, both battling different blood diseases. They and many more are the true heroes of our team.

Great advances in research continue to be made in treating blood cancers. Leukemia is still the number one cause of death of children between the ages of 1 and 15. Leukemia and lymphoma also are the leading fatal cancers in young men and women under the age of 35. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure these devastating blood diseases and improve the quality life of patients and their families. Together we can make a difference.
