I am training to run my FIRST half marathon on October 21 at the Detroit Free Press Run. I’ll give you a moment to close your jaw that dropped open and process that last sentence before I continue!  Yes! I AM running a half marathon, and I am both excited and scared. The picture you see above is from the Crim Race two years ago which was 10 miles....and I was in MUCH better shape then! So this is a bit frightening to say the least.

Some may ask, “Why is Kristi doing such a crazy thing like running 13.1 miles?!” The simple answer would be that I’m running because I can!!! I have had friends and family who have battled cancer, and I’ve seen firsthand the toll it takes on them both emotionally and physically. Although I may not be in “marathon shape” (yet!) I have been blessed with the good health it takes to complete this race. I am running for all those that are battling cancer, yet I have a special place in my heart for Sam Johnson. Sam is the son of very dear friends of mine: Jerry and Janet Johnson. He is my Honored Hero and I am running in memory of him. Sam was an adorable, smart, artistic, hilarious, loving little boy who fought Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with a courage and grace that was incredible. He, along with his parents, battled this disease and never gave up the fight. Sam went home to be with Jesus in Nov. 1998 at the age of 7 but the memory of his giggle as he would beat me at “Don’t Spill the Beans” and the “beyond his years” wisdom he displayed will inspire me to fight these blood diseases step by step….dollar by dollar.

I have joined together with three of my friends, and we are training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team In Training (TNT) program. We believe in the wonderful work that this organization does which is why we are dedicating ourselves to raise money that will continue to fund the research that will find a CURE for these diseases! Our team goal is to raise $8,000 to help continue the invaluable work that the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society does. So that brings me to the part that can be difficult…asking for donations. Whatever you can give does make an impact, and I appreciate it VERY much! Please know that your donation is 100% tax deductible and that 75% of every dollar goes directly to the mission of the LLS. You can make a donation very easily right here on this page! :) You can also send a check directly to me in any amount made payable to LLS or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
