Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page. ONE MONTH TO GO! That's right, as I write this, I'm one month out.
I never imagined that running a marathon would be so difficult, the training, learning to eat properly before long runs, learning how to run correctly (that's right... I'll explain if you ask), and worst of all the injuries (two weeks out in November with a bad knee, another week in December with the same knee, and then an on-and-off hip injury in March). No matter, I push on and keep in mind that the struggles pale in comparison to the battle anyone fighting cancer has. And that's why I'm running this marathon.
I'm running a marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I'm looking for people to join my team. Any donation amount will work. My goal is to raise $3,400 - this will go a LONG way to help fight cancer.
Together, I know we can raise the funds necessary to help those battling blood cancers and I want to thank you in advance for making any donation possible to battle blood cancers.
Please join my team and become one of my sponsors today.
I hope you will visit my web site often for updates.
You can also follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mattfrendewey to keep track of my progress as I raise funds and train for this marathon.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

PROGRESS:
11/15/2009 - Running two miles a day. Seems easy so far, but man am I slow.
11/25/2009 - First injury - knee is killing me, I can barely walk on it. I found out it's an 'IT Band' issues... I have to buy a roller... apparently this injury hits every runner, not sure why I was struck with it just as I started my marathon.
12/11/2009 - Starting to run again, feeling good, knee is better. I'm back to five miles! Seems pathetic but it feels good.
12/28/2009 - Another knee injury - I thought it was all better, and before I knew it - I had to walk a 1/2 mile home.
1/1/2010 - Happy New Year. I didn't run today ... sorry :)
1/31/2010 - It's been cold out, but I don't mind, after the second mile you feel fine. I'm up to eight miles now.
2/15/2010 - Knee hurt a little again but the roller helped solve that problem. I'm pretty impressed how quickly it solves it.
3/6/2010 - I did my first "team" run. I was surprised how easy and fast the two hours went by when I was running with someone rather than alone. 14 miles DONE :)
3/13/2010 - Hip really hurt today, I could only do 8 of my 16 miles before I felt like it was going to fall off. Frustrating but part of the process.
