I officially kicked off my training today with a bike ride!
The ten miles felt great while I was out there, although admittedly now, my quads are aching just a wee bit. As I rode, I thought about the kindness and generosity shown already by so many people as I have embarked on this journey towards becoming an Iron Girl.
I did realize a few things as I rode. I am still a bicycle wimp. There were a few big hills on the route that I took, and instead of cycling down a steep decline, I got off and walked my bike.
Also, I am seriously thinking about looking into more endurance cycling handle bars (not sure if they have a specific name)....and I definitely need to come up with a water bottle or other hydration solution for when I am on the bike.
Looking forward to a great week of training..and hopefully meeting my other TNT teammates at a group swim practice in a week!
Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page. It is hard for me to believe that 13 years ago I was starting my life over again, fresh out of my bone marrow transplant, waiting for the healthy cells to take control. They did, with the help of medicines, amazing doctors and nurses, and a family that supported me. And now, it is my turn to give back. To do good.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are still battling blood cancers, in honor of all the survivors, and in honor of all that lost their battle.
The truth is that we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
