Racing to Save Lives
Welcome
to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the Columbia Iron Girl Tiriathlon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I have completed this triathlon three times but this will be a special one, in honor of my nephew, Lukas, who is working hard to beat the Hodgkins Lymphoma that was diagnosed in late summer.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. While I would like to honor my nephew, I am also completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a
donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance
LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
Updated 2/7/10 - Thanks to all who have donated, I am more than a third of the way to my goal! You guys ROCK!
Training is pretty much at a standstill right now due to 30 inches of snow recently deposited on the running course and bike route, and elsewhere.... But standby - I must get back to it sooner or later...
UPdated 4/2/10 - Training is going a little better but have an appointment with the orthopedist to look at a funny lump on the side of my knee (a bone spur?), and some other weird symptoms. Ran six miles last week, but not easily! I am now training with my demon dog, who can easily run 10 miles with no heavy breathing...
Unfortunately, my nephew Lukas has not had the miracle cure we were hoping for and seems to have a re-ermergence of tumors. Next up for his battle -another round of aggressive chemo and then a bone marrow transplant - luckily he is a tough kid!
Thanks for all of your donations and good vibes for Lukas and his fight!
UPDATED 5/24/10
Training is on the fast track right now as I signed up for the Celebration Tri that will be held Sunday June 27. I am not at all up to speed with the swimming or biking so I am trying to do the tri distance for each at least once a week. Will probably not put it all together until the actual triathlon, but, oh well - the good news is I am learning to swim with my head in the water - pretty exciting for an old hick swimmin' hole swimmer. Don't have news about Lukas yet, but keep him in your prayers.
UPDATED 6/17/10
Today Lukas has his surgery - his bone marrow transplant. Please keep him in your prayers.
