45 days until the Marathon....but who's counting.

Today, a former classmate of mine (VC'07) has been cancer-free for one year!

June 20, 2009

This morning all of us training to run the Baltimore Marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society got together to run hills out by the Loch Raven Resevoir. It was 6:30 on a Saturday morning, and within ten minutes of starting out, the skies opened up and it poured on us, complete with thunder. And yet, despite all of that--the excruciatingly early morning, the downpour, and the hills--I had a wonderful time. I really felt the solidarity of a group training together towards a powerful common goal, and the warmth of that camraderie and purpose kept me almost as warm as the exercise did.

Thank you to all who have donated this month!

Hello Everyone!

45 miles of training down...450+ to go! I have purchased a second pair of running sneakers to prepare for the mileage (and the inevitable wear and tear) to come.

The responses from you, my donors, are coming in slowly but surely, and I want to thank you all for your interest in and support of this endeavor. I would not be able to get up every morning , tie those shoelaces, and set off down that baltimore sidewalk without the knowledge that so many people are rooting for me. Thank You!

As one friend who recently ran a marathon has advised me, "do some speed training in addition to your long runs...and eat lots of chocolate." Check and check.

The race is on!

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!

The last race I ran was the Race Around the World at the geographic South Pole which, while exotic, was (understandably) rather short. I am happy to announce that I am taking on a new challenge--one that I am approaching with trepidation, determination, and enormous amounts of excitement!

I'm training to participate in the Baltimore Marathon this fall as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. The team is a great opportunity for me to get into better shape, to meet new people in Baltimore, and have a community of fellow athletes to support and encourage me--I don't know if I could take on running a marathon all on my own. It also helps that I will be running a marathon for a good cause, a higher one than my own physical fitness. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm running this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.

Most of us know someone with cancer. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure.

Please, if you are interested and able to do so, make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Consider this: just two dollars for every mile I run--even one dollar for every mile--will bring me closer to my goal of raising $1,600.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
