Race Weekend

Well, here we are...
Thank you to everyone for a successful fundraising campaign. When all the money comes in, I think I will have raised upwards of $4700! So close to $5000, I can almost taste it!
This afternoon we leave for San Diego and the half marathon on Sunday. I feel pretty secure that I will finish in a time I will be happy with. I did most of the training (although I have slacked off big time since the last long run) and have continued to work with my personal trainer.
10 years ago this September, I was diagnosed with stage three, non-hodgkin lymphoma and given a grim chance of survival. Here we are, 2011, and getting ready to run the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in San Diego. I can't wait!

Today is my 43rd birthday. I want to thank all the doctors, nurses, researchers, and fundraisers for their tireless work on cancer. I would not be alive today writing this blog post were it not for you. I want to thank everyone who ever fundraised or worked for LLS, ACS and the many other cancer centric non-profits, for your dedication to finding cures for these horrible diseases. I want to thank my family and friends who sat next to me at every afternoon long chemo session or at my bedside during the worst of it. Words alone can not express how much you all mean to me:
Dad
Mom
Frank
Peter
Carrie
Rob
Julie
Louis
Tom
Just to name a few.
Most of all, I want to thank the other patients and survivors out there who are suffering and fighting for their lives. We do this for you. You are my heroes. I thank you.

12-miles

Saturday was a 12-miler. We ran the last 6 miles of the Boston marathon out and back. It was a little bit cold, but I prefer running in that as opposed to hot weather really. I have to say the run went better than I could have hoped. I managed to improve my time from the 10 miles last week. If I keep up with it, I should be able to finish San Diego in 2:20. Well, that's my goal anyway.
Congratulations to the raffle winners:
Maridee & Tony Feeherry won the dinner
Joanne Cancro won the Beehive gift card
Thanks to all who entered!

We just raised $400 in 2 hours! thank you to everyone who donated! It's great to have that support and I can't tell you how fantastic it makes me feel.
Tomorrow we run 12 miles. The course is an out and back of the last 6-miles of the Boston Marathon. Last time I was on that course it kicked my behind. Of course by the time I got to it I had already run 20 miles that day. This should be a little bit better!

10 miler this weekend!

Training is coming along well. Last weekend we ran 8 miles up through Brookline to Cleveland Circle. We finally had some nice weather which was great. This weekend we run 10 miles. Not sure what happened to 9 miles, but there you have it! The run takes place in South Boston which means nothing to me. I hope I don't get lost. ;)
Thank you to all who have donated so far. It means a lot to have the support and I know first hand how much the money helps to fight these horrible blood cancers. I am well on my way to my goal and hope to surpass it with the SF fundraiser, "Cancer is a Drag!" next month. Thank you to Peter, Nick, Bob, Donna and all for putting it together! I can't wait!
Don't forget, there is still time to enter the raffle! Deadline is April 15. see below for details and click on donate now to enter!
