Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
After witnessing the events at the Boston Marathon last April, I was very shaken. I could not seem to rid these feelings over the next few months, and developed a crazy idea that perhaps trying to qualify for Boston 2014 might help. I spent a long summer sweating through multiple 15+ mile runs at the crack of dawn, and ran my first marathon in September. It was the most difficult, yet exhilarating experience of my life. I qualified for Boston, and began to heal myself in the process. However, when all was said and done, all I could think about was, "Now what?" I wanted Boston 2014 to mean something more. I wanted to run it to help others heal, so I began researching charities.
Meanwhile, I graduated college with a degree in nursing, passed my boards, and was offered a dream job as a pediatric hematology/oncology RN at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. I accepted, and knew I had found my reason to run. Starting in January, these are the kids I am going to be taking care of and fighting alongside every day I go to work. When I'm not at work, I'm going to be out on the roads logging miles and workouts and want that commitment to be benefiting them. When I cross the finish line in April, I want that to mean something for anyone who has ever had to or will have to fight these cancers.
Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating, and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
Thank you for your support! -Kim
