Racing to Save Lives VICTORY!!! 4/22/09 And that's a wrap. After four hours and thirty two grueling minutes, I'm happy to report the Boston Marathon was a great success! So far together we have raised over $6,000.00 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, with donations still coming in. We have more than doubled the goal set for each team member before joining - a feat made all the more impressive given the short time in which we had to collect donations. Thank you to each and every one of you - please know that your donations go directly towards researching cures for cancer, and also into patient services for those currently suffering. Please keep an eye on this site for future updates and news! === 3/30/09 Twenty miler was a great success, and am now in "tapering" mode in the lead up to the marathon which is three weeks from today. I learned a few things on the run, not the least of which is that "goo's" are good (who knew?). It was neat to start in Hopkinton and run all the way up to Heartbreak Hill on Comm Ave near BC. I'll definitely enjoy doing it again when there aren't any cars flying by to share the road with. === 3/26/09 Well, just two days to go until the big twenty miler. Donations are continuing to come in and we're on track to surpass our fundraising goal in the next few weeks. Just remember, the more money we raise, the more money goes towards research for a cure and patient services for those suffering from cancer. In other good news, I received my "bib" number today for the course. I'll be going out of the second heat at 10:30 AM (EST). I'll try to set up information on this page for those of you who want to follow along with my progress from home. Hope to see lots of you out there on race day! === 3/7/09 Completed seventeen mile course this morning, and my feet are feeling it. Thorlo socks aren't cutting it anymore, going to start bandaging ahead of time! Three weeks from today is the big twenty miler - we'll start in Hopkinton and head out past Heartbreak Hill. In the meantime, have a seven mile "recovery run" to get done tomorrow. Some interesting news - attended a BAA function in Boston on Thursday - some neat new technology will allow people to check in online on a runners progress. So for those of you not following me on a bike on the course, this will be a great way to keep an eye on how things are going. More info to follow... === Welcome to my Team In Training home page! Please visit frequently to track progress and get updates leading up to the big race on April 20th (or read above paragraphs). As a little background, I'm training to participate in the Boston Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and myeloma, from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress, and please help spread the word. Please note that if you sent your donation via snailmail, it takes a few weeks to show up here. Thanks for your support! |
