Racing to Save Lives

Thank you for visiting my Team In Training home page!

I am preparing to participate in the Philadelphia Triathlon on June 26, 2010 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. In return for their coaching and support, I have pledged to raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am competing in this event in honor of my brother and personal hero John Galinus who has been battling Lymphoma since April of 2003. My brother along with all those battling blood cancers are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

I will put in all of the training miles if you will help out, too. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often to follow my training and see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Kate

2-26-10 Thank you to everyone who has donated! You are amazing! My training is going well: swimming with the Master Swim Program at ESU (I am far from a Master Swimmer), biking in the basement on my trainer and running in the snow. More to come soon....

3-6-10 Spring is in the air!! Good workout inside on the bike trainer today. Looking forward to a long run tomorrow and then a 20 mile bike with Melissa on the roads of Monroe County!!

3-25-10 It sure is nice to get out and run in shorts and T shirt!! Can't believe they are calling for snow tonight here in the Poconos!! Got in a good bike workout on the trainer and run workout at the ESU track today. Off tomorrow for a rest day and then a Metric Century Bike in Delaware on Saturday. 62 miles on the roads of Delaware, Maryland and PA. Ride report coming soon!

3-27-10 The Icicle Metric in Newark, DE. BRRRRRRR! It was a very chilly start to the ride, but warmed up as we climbed the hills of DE, MD and PA. A sunny and beautiful day to ride 62 miles. Felt great!! Thanks to Melissa for going along for the ride!

4-6-10 Right knee has been bothering me a little over the past few weeks. Trying to figure it out and giving it a lot of TLC-massage, accupuncture and rolfing! Doesn't hurt during workouts, so it isn't holding me back. Half marathon coming up this Saturday in the Lancaster area. Can't wait-I love that area.

4-12-10 Survived a very hilly and windy race course on Saturday. My time was a little slower than I had hoped-2:08:32 for 13.1, but I was happy with it all things considered! Thanks to Melissa, Wendy and Adella for the on course cheering and support. Great bike on Sunday with Melissa through the beautiful farmlands. Right knee a little sore-will do some good recovery this week.

4-19-10 Dealing with a sore knee and some equipment problems. Nothing major, just a few bumps in the road. I know they are very minor in relation to what cancer patients are dealing with......

4-24-10 50 mile bike ride with Melissa to celebrate her 50th birthday!! Beautiful ride through Bucks County and into NJ. Sunny and warm. Great day.

4-27-10 Knee is still not right-still trying to find the root of the problem. Getting excited about our fundraiser concert this coming Saturday, May 1st. CJ and I will be rocking the night at the Pine Brook Hollow Tree Farm. 7:00 pm. Suggested donation $15 to LLS. Contact April at aprilmu@gmail.com to reserve a seat. More info at www.kateandcj.com

5-20-10 Well, an MRI showed that I have a meniscus tear in my knee. No worries though....I opted for a Prolozone injection and feel confident that I will be able to do all of my upcoming races. Was in Lake Placid this past weekend and rode 50 miles Saturday and 25 on Sunday. Ran 30 minutes in the pool last night and will try a very short run this weekend on the road. Keep your fingers crossed!

5-20-10 Time to celebrate!!! I have reached my goal of $5,000 thanks to everyone's generosity. You are truly champions. Thank you so much.

6-13-10 I am a little behind in my updates-I apologize! My knee is feeling better and with the help of my Doctors, PT's, Massage Therapist and lots of ice, I hope it continues to improve. I have a great team helping me!! I did compete in the Mooseman in NH on June 6. The skies opened up just before the swim started and continued raining until about 4:00 that afternoon. It took me and my equipment several days to dry out. The swim went well, bike was challenging and I rode cautiously because of the rain. My plan was to do a few miles on the run to see how my knee felt. I did a run/walk for about two or so miles out and turned back for the mud puddle they called the transition area. I was very happy to not have any major pain all day. After the drive home on Monday my knee was a little sore, but has been feeling better since. Heading to lake Placid for a training camp this coming weekend. Hope to be able to do one whole loop of the run course along with the swim and bike!

6-30-10 We did it!!! Thanks to each of you, my fundraising total surpassed my goal and I had a great race in Philly!! My time was 1:56:20 and I finished 15 out of 36 in my age group. It was a very hot, humid day (water temp at 84 degrees), but thanks to the volunteers on the race course, there was plenty of water and gels. My deepest thanks go out to all of you. You are truly making a difference in the lives of many!
