Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
When the New Year's ball dropped in New York, I decided it was time to start 2009 with a resolution that would be both challenging and satisfying at the same time.
That being said, I'm training to participate in the Wildflower Triathlon held in Lake San Antonio, CA (Central California) on Sunday May 3, 2009. I will be doing the Olympic distance triathlon which entails a 1 mile swim, 25 mile bike ride, and 6.2 mile run.
I'm training as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All
of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia,
lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am
completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling
blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we
need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In
Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back
frequently to see my progress. Feel free to send comments as well. While you may not be participating in the athletic events for Team in Training, we're all sharing this life together and your support goes a long way.
So far, we are in the early stages of training but its starting to pick up and get more challenging. Thanks for your support!

Here We Go ...
I've officially been training for three weeks now.
One of the things that I was reminded of very quickly was the soreness on my body around the seat area. Fortunately I've gotten used to it but it definitely makes you wonder if the baby parts are going to ever work again.
I haven't splurged yet and bought the cool shiny spandex bike shirt(s) yet. I figured there has to be some sort of an initiation and I need to earn my stripes but I'm sure I'll make the purchase eventually.
In the meantime, I'm still trying to adjust my bike helmet so I don't look like I'm wearing a French beret when I ride.

Road Bike is definitely the way to go...
This morning I went on a very tough ride. While I have put off getting the skinny tired road bike, today made me realize that I probably need to bite the bullet and get a road bike. You see, I'm currently riding a mountain bike that I'm guessing is at least 12-13 years old. Well we rode throughout Griffith Park today and one of the hills seemed like it would never level out. Needless to say, my mountain bike wasn't so great going uphill. Nothing says that louder when you can't ride your bike faster than a guy running uphill next to you. While I was in some pain, I had to laugh at the fact that one of the girls in our ride was staring at my bike in awe. She was like, "when is the last time you cleaned your bike...and do you store it outside?" Uh, yes, I "store" it outside and lock it next to the house and I think I cleaned the chain years ago. Guess you had to be there but I always do best when I don't over think the whole training process. While I know there are certain aspects of training that are important, I don't get too crazy b/c it takes away the fun factor.
Anyway, I made it through the ride and while I was exhausted, it felt good to push myself. Now I just finished watching Rocky and I think I'm going to put a towel around my neck and stuff it in my sweatshirt before I run around the block. Is it just me, or can anyone else understand what Rocky says throughout the movie? Its like a lot of sound effects coming out of his mouth with the Yooo Adrian at the end being the only words that are clear...Ahhh I digress...
Thanks for your support.

Triceps or Bust...
I rode the bike this morning about 12 miles and tested out my new sunglasses. The little pebbles hitting my face got to be a bit much so I decided I had to conform with some shades. I only rode about 12 miles b/c I ride my bike to work about 3 miles and then I'll ride to swim practice from work. Swim is from 7-8pm and then I'll ride 2 miles home. Fortunately everything is close together.
While this morning's ride wasn't very long, I still thought about random things. Today's random thought was 'what do I hope to get out of this triathlon?' I decided I would like to form a real tricep on my arm. You see, the family genes give the women triceps that you can play paddle ball with. I can't think of the name of the game that they were playing at the end of Napoleon Dynamite but I think Toomey triceps would be the ball in that game. Anyway, I've always said I would like to have a defined tricep before I die...maybe it will finally happen. However, don't hold your breath...
