6/28/10 VICTORY!
We did it! The San Diego International Triathlon was Sunday morning, and after getting up at 4:15am to get ready, we set up our transition areas and waited for our respective "waves" to begin. My wave started at 7:15am- and I was able to finish in under 3 hours! My official time was 2:47:45 - not too bad for a first "tri"!
I want to thank everyone for their support - of the charity and of my training- this was an extremely rewarding experience, and I was happy to be able to make some great friends, and accomplish this goal - all while raising money to help fight cancer.
I have signed up to participate in The Nations Triathlon in Washington DC this September 12th, so I definitely plan to continue my training on my own. For more updates as that race approaches, check out my blog, at http://triathlonholly.blogspot.com/ !
6/7/10 ALMOST THERE!
Race day is less than a month away- and training is still going strong! We are all getting excited for our teammates participating in the South Maui Triathlon next weekend, as the rest of us continue training hard for San Diego.
Training is going well- we are increasing our distances and workout times, while we build up our endurance for race day. The ocean swims are always a challenge, but even these workouts are getting better and better! This past weekend we swam 1 mile in the bay at Long Beach- my longest open-water swim yet! While it was hard, it really was worth it for the sense of accomplishment once we were finished- we "celebrated" with a 50 min. run afterward.
I am still about 25% away from my fundraising goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Please tell your friends about this wonderful cause and help me reach my goal for this season!
4/1/10 Recommitment
Last weekend I signed my recommitment papers and Iam officially signed up for the San Diego Triathlon on June 27th!
I am very excited to say that I am improving as I get used to my bike and perfecting my swmming stroke. Fitting in workouts almost every day of the week has been challenging, but my wonderful teammates have been very helpful in motivating me and reminding me of our mission- not only to finish the race, but to also rase money for this amazing cause!
I am planning some fundraising events in the very near future, so if you are in LA, get ready for more info on those! If you are elsewhere, check back often for more updates and for photos from these upcoming events!
Because of some technical dificulties, my list of generous donors on this page has been reset. I wanted to take this space to give a special thanks to everyone who has donated so far!!

3/4/10 Getting into the 'Swim' of Things...
I think I am finally geting into the groove with training! We had our third swim practice last night, and I think I am already starting to improve. I can't wait until we try swimming in the ocean! I am sure that it will be entirely different- I have never been swimming in the Pacific before, but since we are doing so much to strengthen our form ahead of time- I feel like I will be ready for it.
As for running, I got fitted for new shoes at A Runner's Circle- where I found out I have been wearing the wrong size running shoe! They tested my balance, and checked my arch, and put me in the right shoe for me. This will definitely help as we start running more, and help me to avoid injury.
Thank you again to everyone who has donated! I am getting even closer to my goal for the season- with your help, I hope to surpass my goal and raise even more to help find a cure for blood cancers.
We are having our first bike practice on Saturday- wish me luck, and check back soon for more updates!
2/16/10 BeginingTraining
We began training this week- and I am so excited! Our team is amazing- I have already met so many nice people. It is wonderful to see so many people excited for such a great cause.
Saturday started out a litte cold- but once we got moving, the weather felt great! I will have to remember to do a little more stretching as I get back into the groove of all this excercise!
I will hopefully be adding new photos soon from practice, and maybe even a video or two!
Thank you to everyone for getting my fundraising off to a great start! I am looking forward to meeting (and hopefully exceeding) my goal!
Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I'm training to participate in a triathlon event this summer as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress!
Thanks for your
support!
