Have you in life ever met someone so amazing and wanted to know more about their story. Meet 2 amazing moms. Jennifer (left) and Esther (right).
I read Jennifer’s facebook post last night and it brought me to tears. How is it that a little boy has known cancer all his life? Here is her post.
“5 years ago today Evan was first diagnosed with cancer. 5 years......... Can't believe my 6 year old has known no other life without cancer in it, and he had to start all over again in April. To him it is normal and I think up until recently he has realized not all kids go through this. I pray this time WORKS and we can move on once and for all. Count your blessings, kiss your kiddos and tell them how much they are loved. I know you guys do ;)”
Look at that adorable smile. Currently Evan is at UCLA awaiting a Bone Marrow Transplant. Please take a moment and read his story at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/evangabor.
Last Saturday I participated in a sprint Triathlon. Esther and the kids came out to give us a mission moment. I admit I am in awe of her. Her strength and her courage to get out and speak about cancer. Not many people can do it without crying. Her main message..Get out there and support cancer research. Here is a picture of us after the Sprint Triathlon.
This one really makes me smile. This is Nathaniel with my son Johnny. It made my heart leap when I saw what we wrote about the photo on his facebook wall. He wrote "One of the coolest, bravest, strongest lil kids I ever met in my life want to starting running marthons look for a cure," His comment made me the proudest mom.
I consider myself a very lucky mom. I have an amazing husband, who supports me and all the crazy things I do. And my boys, I couldn't be prouder!! Honestly I could go on and on about them. I do get a little cheesy when I talk about them.
Here are a few pictures from my sprint Triathlon . That smile never left my face. Well honestly it only left my face a few times. On my bike ride I was more singing to myself. Mary had a little lamb and Old Mc Donald kept me pretty entertained. :) You had to be there.
Did I win you ask? Of course I did. I crossed that finish line with a huge smile, in my book that is 'WINNING" big time. I hear I was the only one to get a tunnel of love. THANK YOU TEAM without you I wouldn't be doing this.
and check it out.... I have been swimming in the pacific ocean. It's true what they say, the more you do it the more fun it is.
I'm still fundraising. If you have an extra $5 to spare please give. It's all about kicking cancer in the a$. What better way to do it but to support cancer research. Please send out the link to your friends and have them send it to their friends. Think about Evan and Nathaniel and their fight. No child should know a life with cancer.
From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!!
Last Saturday I received this awesome new suit, some people call it a wet suit I call it...my fearless suit.
I got my wet suit handed to me and laughed. How am I going to get this thing on? With a little big of tugging, a little sweat, and a lot of laughs -> I got it half way on. Yes HALF WAY. It was one of those moments where you had to be there.
After us participants got our suits on, the Coaches looked at us and said OK now take it off. WHAT? I just got it on. They said "I never told you to put them on." It was a test right? It had to be. Nope not a test. Take them off and then put them back on. It was easier the second time around. Then it was jump in the water time. COLD COLD COLD that was all I kept saying. Next dunk your head in the water. COLD COLD COLD. Now swim to the bouy. I looked at it and inside laughed. Really? Then I realized..hey wait a minute I can just stand still and float. Then things got a bit easier. It was a hard swim, but none the less fun. I need a water proof camera, I looked at some people around me and they swan like angels. Huh? What? Take for instance, my friend Jenny Stanley. When she first joined the Triathlon team she couldn't swim. Now what I saw on Saturday was not a beginner swimmer. The woman swam so smooth and with such grace. Surely she is lying about never being able to swim.
The point of my story..this is FUN! Yeah it's scary. And Yes I am no expert, but all the training and hard work I know is going to worth it in the end. No I will not come in first place and I may even come in last place, but it's all worth it.
If the mind can believe it, the body can achieve it.
Yep that quote pretty much sums up my Saturday. We are doing it again this Saturday. I can honestly say I can't wait.
I know it's crazy. I get the sweetest text messages from my little cousins saying I inspire them. I admit I've been a little emotional lately. I've been doing endurance events with Team in Training since 2006. It has honestly been the most rewarding experience ever. Not only have I made the most amazing friends but the reward is priceless. The truth behind it all "Together We Train To Beat Cancer." If you have ever considered joining Team in Training- DO IT! I promise you it's an amazing life experience.
This quote really gives me the chills. I heard it before but never really experienced it. There will be weeks where your training just 'sucks'. Stress from work just really brought me down last week and I felt like my training was less then stellar. BUT when you are motivated by amazing people it seems to makes those grey skies blue.
This weekend at practice we did a BRick. The way it was described to me was, we Bike, then we run then our bodies feel like ick. SO TRUE. We had an 18 mile bike ride and then a 2 mile run. I started off really well but at one point I just pooped out. When I say I have the best mentor ever I mean it. Sue Baker never left my side. And Dana, I could have never finished strong without you. Best part, you showed me the beauty of how to say hello to other Triathletes. :) .
Yes look at that smile. This is how it's done.
I had a conversation with a my aunt last weekend. She asked me, why do it? Why not just train for yourself and not fundraise. I wanted to say…You do realize I am doing this in memory of my aunt, who just happens to be your sister? I was a little angry. Then I realized some people just don’t understand why I do it.
Why I do it.
On a personal level it’s the benefit of feeling empowered. I am raising funds to help those in need. But why do it with Team in training? Like my aunt asked, why not just train on your own? Because as the Team in Training quote goes “Together We Train to Beat Cancer.” I know I’m making a difference for cancer patients and their families.
Why I am thankful for my donors.
I know you are handing over your hard earned money in exchange for the opportunity to make the world a better place. I know you need to pay your mortgage or maybe you are saving to put your kids through college. Whatever the reason I am thankful you decided to give me some of your hard earned money. Thank you for believing in me.
As for my aunt, I hope one day she does see the light. Don’t get me wrong she isn’t a bad person. She just doesn’t understand. Where does all the money go? Interesting enough I do have the answer to that.
