Meet Thais
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!!!!!!! I'm training to run in the Santa Barbara News-Press Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I am not a runner, but I will be training as one with a different purpose in mind: to raise awareness and funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am doing this event in honor of a little friend of mine, Thais, who is currently battling leukemia. I met Thais on my recent pediatric hematology/oncology rotation, and he will be in my thoughts as I train for this event and raise money to help the cause. Thais is only 6 years old, but he has a huge personality! And he is reallyyyy cute. Here is a picture of us together a couple months ago!
Thais and others with leukemia/lymphoma are the real heroes on our team, and it is amazing what they, and their families, must endure when struggling with these malignancies. That's why I need your support to help raise funds for research and medical procedures. If you can, please make a donation of any amount to support my participation in advancing LLS's mission. It's really easy to donate and every little bit counts. So if you're able to, please please please contribute!
Also, visit my web site often! I'll be updating it with information on my training and more ways that you can participate! And, you can check back to see my progress toward the goal of raising $2,200. For now, I've just started so I have a long way to go! :)
Thanks a million for your support! It really means so much to me.

UPDATE:
10/10/09- Ran 6 miles this morning. The fundraising event will be held next Saturday, October 17th at the Libertine (8210 Sunset Blvd), hope everyone can make it!
9/28/09- We ran 9 miles on Saturday! Plans for our fundraising event are underway and details will be coming soon. Thais starts maintanence tomorrow! That means 3 more years of treatment, however, the hardest part of his chemo is now over! Congrats to Thais!
9/12/09- Training is going really well! We ran 6.5 miles today, farthest I've run to date. Half way there... :)
9/5/09- I went to the clinic yesterday to visit Thais and he was doing really well! He had just finished his chemo and was eating McDonald's. He was laughing a lot and playing around with me. He's lost a front tooth too which he was quite proud of. Hope I can see him again next week!
