Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I'm training to participate in the San Diego Rock 'N' Roll Marathon on June 5th as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.
I first got involved in Team in Training over 11 years ago, when I ran the San Diego Rock 'N' Roll marathon in honor of my very much loved Uncle Ken (Ken Hooper), who passed away from leukemia. Since then, I've fundraised for other marathons/triathlons, continuing to honor him as well as friends, family and the incredible individuals I met through the program who have been affected by cancers of the blood. I decided this year to fundraise for and run the very same marathon I did 11 years ago -- the San Diego Rock 'N' Roll Marathon on June 5th -- with the goal of not only running the 26.2 miles faster than I did 11 years ago, but also trying to surpass previous fundraising amounts.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission and help cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Any amount helps and is very much appreciated. Thanks for your support!

6/3/2011 - As usual amazed by the generosity and support of my friends and family. You're the best!! Way over the original goal set my Team in Training of $1950 and it's thanks to all you :)
5/25/2011 - Officially starting taper. 15 miles today and felt great! Now on to much shorter runs until race day on June 5th. Very happy as had a a bit of a set back the previous week where I had to stop mid run but took a week off and felt great today. The best part of the day though was when I came home from the run to find an email from Lynne Gassel that it's now been four years that Stu Gassel (who I did my last triathlon 4 years ago in honor of) has been cancer free :) !
5/5/2011 - 19 mile make up long run done last night as was in Nola this past weekend. Sore but made it through! Could definitely feel all those New Orleans beignets I ate this past weekend :)
4/26 - 16 miles done on Sunday with the help of my team! Definitely very sore but worth it knowing for such a great cause. Every Sunday, team members share their connection to the cause. One of our teammates spoke on Sunday how four of her family members were diagnosed with cancers of the blood. Sadly, one of them passed away but she said she looked at the positive that three were still with her and the she believes without all the work done by LLS it would have been very different. She comes every week knowing the with all the research that LLS does that hopefully there will be one day there will be a time where there are no lives lost due to cancers of the blood. Thank you again for all your support and generosity!
