Mother's Day
May 08, 2011 by Gabriela Hernandez
-
The sun came up this morning;
It wasn't very bright.
My dark mood casts a shadow;
It's hard to see the light.
We all have just one mother
And, now that her life on earth is done,
The emptiness and loss I feel
Make it hard to see the sun.
Tomorrow is a brand new day;
May the pain and sadness lighten.
I will remember all her love,
And then the sky will brighten.
Gone is not forgotten;
Her love reminds behind;
She's traveled in a new direction -
Love knows no space or time.
I will always love her.
She will care for me from above.
She will send me starlight and rainbows
To remind me of her love.

Dear family and friends,
Here’s a letter we never thought we would write – and certainly one you never expected to receive from us. Christian and I are currently training to run a marathon on June 5, 2011. You know we have never done anything remotely like this. No one’s ever known me or Chris of being obsessed with, or even very interested in, fitness or the great outdoors. It’s true, though – we will be running 26.2 miles in San Diego, and here is why….
We have joined Team In Training, an endurance training and fundraising program that benefit’s The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We have committed to raising $4,200 to support their efforts to treat and cure blood cancers (leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma), and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families
We signed up because we wanted to give something back. Our mom Gladys was diagnosed with Acute myelogenous leukemia last summer. Unfortunately she lost her battle with leukemia at a premature age. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a good friend to everyone who knew her. She was a person who was always ready to lend a helping hand without asking for anything in return. Whether it was advice, a hug, or even a delicious meal you could always count on her. We never imagined such a terrible disease would take our beloved mother. In her memory we would like to continue her example and lend our hand to those who have also affected by this disease.
As we train, a mile at a time, it is with passionate hope that we can make a difference so other patients and their families will not have to share our experience with their loved ones. This year, an estimated 137,260 new cases of blood cancers will be diagnosed nationwide, and some 54,020 patients will lose their battles. We want to do what we can to change those numbers, and those outcomes.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal by making a 100% tax-deductible donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please show your support and encouragement for our marathon by April 20. If you would like us to run in honor or memory of someone you care about, please include their name. We will be proud to carry their names, along with our mother’s as we cross the finish line.
With warmth, love and thanks,
Gaby and Christian Hernandez

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
