Racing to Save LivesHello! Thanks for visiting my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the San Diego Marathon in June as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm running (and walking, and probably dragging myself at points) in honor of everyone who is battling or has battled blood cancer, and for the people who love them. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help LLS eradicate blood cancers, and provide support to those living with cancer in the meanwhile.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thank you so much for your support!

Today, I woke up at 5:45 am and dragged myself out of bed to run 10 miles in the pouring rain. About halfway through I was definitely thinking this whole thing was probably the worst idea ever, but that was nothing a bit of gatorade and a few pringles couldn't fix. And you know, I think running in drenched, squelching shoes actually softened the impact.

I ran 14 miles today! That's more than a half marathon, and about 13 miles further than I'd ever run in one go just a couple of months ago. It got tough in the middle, but overall it felt great. And a dip in the freezing cold Pacific Ocean afterwards was wonderfully refreshing--better than an ice bath, at any rate!

18 miles! I didn't know it was possible, but it felt amazing--I actually felt like I could have kept going (which is good, I suppose, since eventually I'm going to have to go 8+ miles farther...). Plus, after finishing a long run like that, I'm pretty much euphoric for a few solid hours afterwards. Such an amazing feeling.

This week was a recovery week--we only ran 12 miles today. That I would preface "ran 12 miles" with the word "only" makes me wonder who I am, but hey, after running 18 last week and 16 the week before that, it felt relatively easy. Crazy. Probably a good thing, since I have a final tomorrow.

Today I ran 20 miles! Still can't quite wrap my head around that. It was certainly tough, and there were points at which I think I was more hobbling than running, but I made it, thanks to good conversation and encouragement from my wonderful Team in Training running buddies! This was our last big distance before race day...I'm looking forward to San Diego!
