Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!

I've joined with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT) program in order to participate in San Diegos Rock n Roll Marathon on June 6th 2010. I have committed to raising $2,500 and completing these 26.2 miles. In return, TNT will coach my teammates and me and give us the support we need to meet our race goal. Now I need your support to meet our fundraising goal!! To date, members of Team In Training raised over $900 million dollars for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in its fight against leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, lymphoma, and myeloma. These diseases affect blood-forming tissues like the spleen, lymph nodes and bone marrow, and cause them to produce abnormal blood cells, preventing the production of normal cells.

It affects people like my cousin, Brenda Gomez, who was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL) at age 11. During the 1950s through 1970s APL was 100 percent fatal and there was no effective treatment. No one knew how the cancer formed. It also affects kids like Tyler Cordova, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and Leukemia when he was only 6. My cousin (now 24) has been in remission since July 24th, 1997 and is alive today because of the treatments discovered by LLS. Tyler is currently preparing for a stem cell transplant after relapsing with cancer cells in his central nervous system, although hes not looking forward to spending several months in the hospital, he understands that this is a chance for a cure, and is taking it head on.

I'm proud to be doing this marathon for all of my Honored Teammates. My training will be tough, but nowhere near as tough as the doctors' visits, the months of chemotherapy, and the endless poking, prodding and needle sticking that Tyler and Brenda have gone through. It will be nothing compared to the treatments that thousands of leukemia patients go through every day. Im in for a long race, but theirs is longer. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
