Racing to Save Lives.
THANK YOU for visiting my Team In Training home page!
To keep things simple...
#1. I decided to run a MARATHON.
#2. I wanted a greater purpose..more than just the ability to say "I ran a marathon" so I am raising funds to FIGHT CANCER through the Lukemia and Lyphoma Society.
#3. Take 2 minutes and visit this page:
http://www.llslifemosaic.com/lifemosaic/mosaic.jsp
(Click on one of the many boxes and you will understand
the impact these funds will have. This is my motivation)
#4.Please click on the green box to the right that says "Donate Now". Your donation will have an impact on so many lives. Trust me.
This journey of mine will culminate on
JUNE 6TH, 2010
at the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon.
I invite you you experience this with me. Just physically being there..the amount of accomplishment and feelings of achievement that overwhelm the finish line will have you wanting to experience it yourself...believe me, that's what happened to me!!
Until then, I will continue to write about my training journey
and update you along the way.
********UPDATE 4/5/10********
I just ran 12 MILES this afternoon!!! It felt great :) up until the last 3miles or so when I could feel some soreness in my ankles.. but hey, I finished in approximately 2hrs and 8mins! Woohoo! I just wanted to express my appreciation to those who have donated so far.. when I started to struggle during my run, it was the thought of your support that helped me finish strong to the end :)
THANK YOU
********UPDATE 3/31/10********
Last week I reached a milestone...I ran 10miles!!
This is the longest distance I have ever ran :) It took a toll on my body the following days after, but I'm better now and will be running 12miles this weekend!!
I've finally got my fundrasing efforts rolling....to be honest I really only started last night. Procrastination is a terrible thing. This coupled with the doubt I had about whether or not I could keep up with the training and raise the minimum kept me from publicizing to anyone that I was planning on doing this.
BUT, I HAVE MADE THE COMMITMENT!
No turning back now.. I recommitted myself last week with the team and I have to see this thru to the end.
All the inspirational stories of those battling cancer remind me of why I decided to do this in the first place...An excerpt from one of the "life mosaics" I mentioned above offers a fresh perspective on life. When I read it, it renewed my perspective..
His name is Gary and at 54years old he was living with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for 10years and 6months. After learning of his diagnosis, after the fear of treatment, fear of the unknown, the fear of dying, he wrote:
"Life goes on, and it is good indeed. These are times to discover how tough you really are, how loved you really are, and how much more you want to do with your life... Work is no longer so important. Nothing takes on the urgency it used to. I've learned to relax more, to take it all in, and to enjoy all that the senses have to offer... This experience has deepened my spiritual connections. For as long as I’m able, I plan to be all I can be. My advice to you “newbies” out there is “hang tough.” Trust in God, trust your doctor, and believe that you will come through this intact and, in fact, better than ever before."
This message reminded me of how precious life is and how important it is to just stop and re-evaluate how we are living it. As I said before, gratitude is my driving force and as long as I'm able, I'd like to be all I can be too.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO READ THIS.
I hope you will visit my web site often :)
Thanks for your support!
With love,
TJ Retuya
