March 11th 2010 marks the 2nd year of our journey. This day will forever be engraved in our hearts when we had to listen to my son's pediatrician tell us " I am sorry to tell you but your son has CANCER!! "Leukemia" and watched how our whole world came crashing down upon us. Between chemotherapy treatments, doctor visits and hospitalizations for the first years, it was hard in itself and to be in remission for almost a year in a half was even better. But to have to found out at the 18 month mark once again the doctors say "I am sorry but the cancer came back your son has RELAPSED!!! That was even harder than the initial diagnoses because at least in the beginning we had hope it could be cured since he did get ALL which is one of the most curable cancers out there, but now with the relapse, we once again were hit with the uncertainty of not knowing if my son would be able to survive. The new plan was heavier chemotherapy, radiation and a (BMT) Bone Marrow Transplant.

Now almost two years later my son Robert Nathaniel Arteaga is a cancer survivor, you could say this is a temporary fix because he can still relapse, this is not a 100% guarantee which is why I'm training to participate in a Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event not only in honor of my son Nathaniel but for all the other individuals who are battling blood cancers right now. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Yes there is no reason why children should ever have to go through chemo treatments.

I am calling on all my Family and Friends to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. My fundraising goal is to raise $2,500 for this event. It's not only LLS mission but my own personal mission to do everything in my power to be able to help find a cure. I hope one day I am able to get my questions answered as to why my son got cancer, especially when it doesn't run in my family. Not only me but everyone else who has been touched by cancer.
