Update 4/22/09
Ok, we ran 15 miles on Sunday. That's just ridiculous. And then we did track training tonight. We ran two sets of 1 miles, 1/2 miles, and 1/4 miles... the goal was to run faster than our marathon pace - as fast as we can sustain. And to stay consistent. For me, 1 mile = 7:12 and 7:05, 1/2 mile = 3:23 and 3:24, 1/4 mile = 1:28 and 1:27. I haven't run that fast a mile since Jr High.

Update 4/12/09
We ran 10 miles today, hillier than normal, so it was harder than expected. Gearing up for the 15 miler next Sunday. Off to Orlando for business... we'll see if I am good and do my weekday run (it's actually a nice run).

Update 4/10/09
Last Sunday Jess and I ran 13 miles with the team. A half-marathon! we are definitely feeling it this week, luckily it's a ramp-down week (only 10 miles on Sunday) so we can rest a little. Coming up we start getting into the crazy big mileage. We are excited. The marathon is less than 2 months away.
Thanks for all your support so far!

Update 3/4/09
Happy day-after square root day (3.3.09). I haven't updated in a while, things have been pretty hectic here between work and personal life. But I have kept up with my running - which has been a really nice way to get time to think.
Last Sunday we ran 7 miles, this sunday is 8 miles with the team. I like the distances, especially because we have so many other people to run with and talk to. The midweek runs are still at 30 mins, I think the time goes up next week.
We've heard stories from 3 of our honored teammates so far.
- Chris Wilno (our coach) lost his father to Leukemia - 3 months after he lost his first baby in the womb, his story was awful... but he has used Team In Training to focus his energy and grief, and he is very enthusiastic and motivating
- Krissy Kobata has MDS which is a precursor to blood cancer and the only cure is a bone marrow transplant (http://www.teamkrissy.com/ ). Krissy is one amazing reason to be here.
- Laura Maloney was diagnosed several years ago with CML, Chronic Mylegoneous Leukemia, a blood cancer. Her life was turned upside down. But with the help of family and friends, she got through it. she lost my hair, was down to 92 pounds, but other than that claims 'I was a hottie, if you appeal to the Anorexic/Alien look!' After a series of treatments and slow progress, she appears to be winning the battle, and is running the marathon with us!

Update 2/14/09
Happy Valentines Day! We've been good this week and have stuck with the exercise schedule (except I missed my strength & conditioning day - Jess did hard core yoga). Going running today and then tomorrow is the next team run. 4 miles tomorrow... then we start getting into real distances.

Update 2/8/09
Jess and I ran 3 miles in the first team run in Santa Monica this morning. 8am on a Sunday with 80 other people. Whoo! They talked about all the people we help with the money we raise to help cure blood cancers... thank you to everyone who contributes!

Racing to Save Lives
Hey peoples... Jess and I are both training for the San Diego Rock'n'Roll Marathon (really, we are) - as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. On top of getting our 'fit' on, we're raising money to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We're running the marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
A $25 donation gets me 1% of the way toward my goal. Which makes you 1% more awesome than you already are.
I'm going to update this site with how well my runs are going, all the random joys of waking up early to go running nearly every day, and sweaty pics of Jess and me, all for your enjoyment. So I hope you visit this site often. Thanks for your support!
