Racing to Save Lives
Well there you are!! :o) Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I'm training to run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon on May 31st, 2009 (that's 26.2 miles) as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training program.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In
Training and help advance LLS's mission. If I manage to raise $2500, I will be able to run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon on May 31st, 2009. That's 26.2 miles!
I hope you will visit my web site often and be sure to check back
frequently to see my progress. Thanks so much for your support!
Update - Week 8:
This week we were encouraged to participate in the Agoura Hills 10K (6.2 miles) to gain the typical race experience. I've already done a few 10Ks in the past, but I figured, why not? You get a free t-shirt anyway. :o) So it was a beautiful run, a few intense hills (! ) but I ran the 6.2 miles in one hour flat thanks to my runningmate Molly. We really kept eachother going which was great! Then Sunday, we ran 12 miles as a team, and needless to say, I am hurting today. Still though, its awesome to be able to say I ran a total of 18 miles this weekend and still feel okay. So crazy! I cant stop eating today, but Im thinking thats natural...right? :)
Update - Week 7:
I SHALL PASS THROUGH THIS WORLD BUT ONCE. ANY GOOD, THEREFORE, THAT I CAN DO OR ANY KINDNESS THAT I CAN SHOW TO ANY HUMAN BEING, LET ME DO IT NOW. LET ME NOT DEFER NOR NEGLECT IT, FOR I SHALL NOT PASS THIS WAY AGAIN - Jerry Lewis
....This quote really inspired me this week, made me remember that all of my efforts are part of such a bigger purpose, the need to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves. Its the least any of us can do. There is no greater gift than the gift of service.
Update - Week 5:
This week really tested my mental strength. I had a definite low point with a few bad mid-week runs and just started doubting myself. Then I realized that nothing was going to change until my attitude changed. So, I made a conscious effort to think positively, and to be grateful for the fact that I have legs and lungs and the ability to run. We train with people every week who are living with cancer. If that doesnt knock some sense into you, I dont know what will. Needless to say, I got back to where I needed to be mentally, and am back to loving this process. As someone training with asthma, the fact that I was OK running 8 miles yesterday through beautiful Marina Del Rey was a HUGE accomplishment. I couldn't have gotten there without Team in Training, thats for sure!
Update - Week 3:
We had someone named Krissy come speak to our group today about how the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society/TNT has helped her. She is only 26 years old, and in great need of a bone marrow transplant. She also runs in my pace group every Sunday and is the nicest girl. I just can't imagine having to live with that reality. Many of us registered with the bone marrow registry after the run to help anyone seeking a donor match. Apparently its harder than I imagined to find a bone marrow match, I just hope I can help someone down the line as much as this group is helping me.
