Blankets to Sleep In
Growing up in the Midwest, I experienced some chilly nights. I remember her blankets...
They were often pieced together from scraps of different colored yarn. She wouldn't think of wasting a strand. Yet somehow they turned into beautiful expressions of art, which at the same time always kept us warm and seemed to last forever.
My Grandmother, Anna Hudziec, journeyed to America with nothing but my Grandfather at her side and my 4 year old mother grasping her hand. She was the silent rock of the family... or so I hear...
I was only seven when she passed away from Leukemia. I remember peeking in the room where my Grandfather sat and instead of him teaching me about death that day, he helped me understand LOVE. His tears told a story of heartache, a true testament to how rare a person my Grandmother was.
I wish I could have known her longer...
Her absence is what brings me here today.
Please help me fight blood cancer by supporting me in the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon San Diego on May 31, 2009. In advance, thank you for your generosity.
