Aubrey's Running the San Diego Rock N' Roll Marathon!
Feb 11, 2009 by Aubrey Walton

I AM OFFICIALLY A MARATHON RUNNER!!! WAHOO!!!

On Sunday, May 31, I died. Miles 1-17 I was running hard, staying right on pace, breathing well, hydrating my body, mentality was good.... miles 17-20 the pain began. My hamstrings and lower butt muscles (yes, your butt muscles are very important muscles for running, ha) were killing me and every step I took was more pain and more pain. Miles 20-26 was one of the hardest things I had ever done in my entire life, both physically and mentally. It was painful. It was tough. It was 6.2 miles of torture. But it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

Amazing in the fact that I completed my very first marathon. Amazing in the fact that I accomplished one of my life goals. Amazing in the fact that I continued to push through mile after mile, pain through pain, and tears to smiles and ran across that finish line with my arms held high in the air and a big smile across my face. I just ran my very first marathon. AMAZING!!!

It was a moment in time that I will never forget. It was one of the best experiences I will ever have. It was life changing.

My overall time was 5 hours and 44 minutes. That is almost 6 hours of straight running!!! Gotta love all those burned calories, ha. Running with my pace group and running with my fellow TNT'ers was one of those things where you fall in love. All those months of training with eachother and giving eachother motivation, and then to challenge yourself with one of the hardest things a human being can do to themselves and seeing everyone cross the finish line was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

We are all winners and we are absolutely awesome.

Congratulations to all my fellow running buddies. Not being able to walk and feeling like you just got shot by a machine gun is absolutely worth the feeling of accomplishment and victory.

We. Are. AMAZING.

Thank you again to everyone who donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I can not tell you how much it is appreciated. For all of you who sponsored one of my body parts, photos will be coming your way!!!

Until my next running fete,

Aubs
