Inspirational Thoughts for the Week:
“Much of my life in the past 20 years has been spent contemplating those last 6 miles. I am sure the physical body was not meant to run over 20 miles. As we hit the wall and all systems fail, what gets us to the finish line is beyond medical science. We must train ourselves mentally for these miles because no physical training will get us through. Visualization is a helpful tool in this training. Visualize mile 20, 21 and 22 going past. You are ready because you have trained hard and you have raced smart. Imagine passing others who have not prepared as well as you have. Imagine the last three miles. You have made a commitment to finish this marathon now you are at mile 23 and all systems fail. Now it is time to regroup and agree with your body that what you ask is unreasonable but please get me through at least one more mile. At mile 24 you tell your body that you made it one more mile when it said it was not possible . Now it is time to trick it another mile. Now for that last mile, all kinds of excuses will get you through this one. Visualize the finish line, the crowd, how accomplishment feels.”

I'm training to participate in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n Roll Marathon in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday, January 18th, 2009 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, and winning this fight everyday -they are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
My personal goal is to complete the marathon (26.2 miles… finishing is goal #1), and to raise $3500 dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!! Donations in any amount will be greatly appreciated. You may make your tax-deductible donation via snail mail to me or, you my simply donate online here!!! When you donate, please include the name(s) of the people in your life who have been affected by these cancers, as I would like to also run in honor of them (and you).
Please help me join in the fight against blood cancers with the LLS, and help patients, survivors and families in a mission to improve quality of life, raise awareness, and raise funds to FIND A CURE.
If you are unable to donate financially, please take the time to consider registering to become a potential bone marrow donor at http://www.marrow.org. When you become a bone marrow donor, you join the global movement of more than 11 million donors who stand ready to give someone a future.
Please visit http://www.teamkrissy.com/ to read about one of my team mates, recently diagnosed with MDS, and how becoming a bone marraw donor really can save lives- today. She is 26, and afflicted with MDS. Because of her mixed-ethnicity, she has been unable to find a match. She is running alongside us, and has been an amazing inspiration to all of us.
As I prepare on this long (crazy) journey ahead for the next five months, you are all in my thoughts. I ask you now, to help me alongside in the fight for this very important cause. I would love to hear from all of you; hear your inspirational stories, advice, and read how you are doing!
Please keep sending positive thoughts my way… I’m gonna need all the positive reinforcement I can get! If you would like to check my fundraising progress, please check back here often . Thank you kindly in advance for all of your support!! As the Dixie Chicks would say, “I’m ready to run”….
All My Love,
Maralyn
