Racing to Save Lives



Hi there, thanks for clicking the link - I got you this far!



This September, I'm doing my first triathlon - the Olympic-distance Pacific Grove Triathlon in Monterey, CA. It's a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and then a 10 km run (~ 1 mile, 25 miles, 6 miles).



To train for it, I joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. Each Team In Training member raises funds for LLS to research leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma and to improve the lives of patients. It's a great organization and I've met a bunch of inspiring people so far.



There's a very tangible benefit to the money I'm able to raise. My aunt Iris was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (cancer of the blood marrow) in 2004. She had a stem cell transplant in 2005 and was in remission for 2 years. She's now continuing to fight the disease with an oral chemo and she's preparing for a second stem cell transplant. LLS helps enable research into new myeloma drugs that are very promising for my aunt, and also enables research to find a cure.



I'm hoping to raise $4000 for LLS, and then I'm hoping not to drown or crash during my race. Please donate what you can, and add a note of encouragement or a little smack-talk to help motivate me to train harder and lower my consumption of bacon and/or beer for the next 14 weeks.
