Welcome to my Team In Training Fundraising page. Wait, wasn't Sarah just training and fundraising for a Half-Iron Tri? But now she's doing what? Isn't she still training for...
I thought she hurt her back...
Team WTF! ...Women, Titans, Fearless
To mark our 40th birthdays, a group of my high school girlfriends have set out to push our boundaries and to succeed in something we had never done before. It had to be something big, something meaningful...
"WTF! We're all gonna run a marathon?"
I'm fortunate to say they're all still talking to me after uniting to face this challenge, because we knew it had to be done for a very good cause...
"WTF! We have to raise how much money?"
Challenge number two, but again we knew it had to be done for a very good cause...
"Oh, WTF... We are Women, We are Titans. We are Fearless. Let's do it!"
Now we've turned headstrong toward our challenges to fight and to conquer, but we need your help and support!
We're training to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We are completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your help to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support our team's participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
We hope you will visit our website often. Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. Thanks for your support!
Here's our story...
In the 1980's, a handful of girls began to build friendships with one another, some during middle school and others as Poway High Titans. As time passed, the friendships grew stronger and stronger. College forced them to go their separate ways, but nonetheless, the strong bonds would not be broken.
Fast forward to their 10-year high school reunion. (L to R) Mary, Naomi, Sarah, Trenace and Athena found that the friendships had not faded. Quite the opposite. It was as if no time had passed. Since then, they have continued to remain close friends and do what friends do - support, encourage, inspire and motivate.
Here's to what could become our newest addition to our many annual traditions!
I'm also thrilled that another great high school girlfriend Stacie - also about to turn 40 - who I ran my first 1/2 marathon with in 2006, will also be joining us for the run! (left)
Hope Kelly (right) and Jamiellin (below) can join us for the marathon celebration!
The latest update is that the 4 gals will run the full while Stacie and I will be doing the half-marathon. I haven't been able to run farther than 6.2 miles due to my back, somedays even walking straight is a challenge, so we'll see how it goes! But between Stacie and my friend Debby (I still remember her saying, many marathons ago... "I'm not an athlete, I'm a dancer!" - turns out she's BOTH) we'll all get to the finish line! I've been dying to use this picture of her somewhere, it's one of my favorites, EVER for TNT finishers!
Also, I'm so excited that Sara D and Alison (seen below in Gnome Village from Wildflower Training Weekend) are also training for the FULL - crazy S. Bay Beeyatches!
And last but most important of all, we'll all be walking in memory of Sheri's Dad who was lost this year to AML. I'll never forget the first phone call that I had with Sheri (bottom, purple) when she first signed up for Team In Training (it's a great story!) and I'll never forget when she told me that after her first amazing season, ironically her dad was diagnosed with blood cancer. Sheri will still be a faster walker than I am a runner, and will lead this motley crew across the finish! (Sheri I tried to do a Bon Jovi joke but it just doesn't work as well).
