My Reason To Race
Thank you for visiting my Team in Training home page.
When I graduated from high school back in 2003, I left behind the days of being an actual distance runner and entered the days of being the kind of distance runner that only exists in my head. While the speedy mile times and ability to run uphill for 10 minutes straight might have left me, my identity as a distance runner as well my infatuation with the idea of ever-increasing self-discipline never have. Since high school I have known that I wanted to run a marathon. Many opportunities came and went but for some reason it never quite seemed like the right time for me.
But this one was different. Team in Training took something that was already powerful to me (the idea of overcoming an incredibly daunting task) and took it a gigantic step further. By joining Team In Training I commit to raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. It is a branch of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a cause very near to my heart.
Since my mother was diagnosed with a rare blood disease 8 years ago, she has demonstrated nothing but the utmost strength. She took this hit in stride and carried on being the most caring, involved, self-sacrificing, and non-stop person I know. It is her model that will act as an inspiration for me during my months of training leading up to the race on October 19th. I am completing this event in honor of my mother and all individuals who are battling blood cancers.
I am incredibly excited to have made the decision to register for this marathon. The more I've thought about what this race means to me, the more it seems absolutely clear that this is something I have to do.
My new goal is to raise $6,000 by this October. Please show your support of my participation in Team In Training and help advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission by making a donation . Even the smallest amount can make a difference.
Be sure to check back from time to time to see my progress.
Thank you so much for your support!
