Racing to Save Lives

Dear Friends and Family:

As many of you know I am involved with Team In Training (TNT), which is the worlds largest amateur endurance training organization, but more importantly it is also a fundraising arm of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). As you know I am a survivor of Lymphoma (plus a couple of other things) and am totally dedicated to this cause.

I have been involved with TNT for nearly 5 years now and have had a hand in seeing over 400 people reach their athletic and fundraising goals and I plan to continue. I am actually a walk coach now and will help oversee a team of about 100 people this coming season.

TNT is now in it’s 20th year and is poised to surpass the $1 BILLION mark of total funds raised. These funds go towards research into blood cancers, and patient and family services. This is a huge landmark for this organization and I want to be a part of reaching this goal. Thanks to you and people like you I have raised over $14,000 to this point. I am asking for your help once again. I will be training to participate in the Nike Women’s Marathon (yes I said women’s, but they let guys in also). My personal goal is to raise $6000 this time so that I can top $20,000 total raised.

I heard a fellow survivor and mother of three speak the other day about her cancer experience. She was given a 3-year death sentence but during her various treatments to prolong her life she heard about a new drug Glevac that was in trials at that point. She was able to become part of the test and today, after 8 years, she is cancer free thanks to this drug that was released because of research paid for by LLS from monies raised by TNT. At that same time I met a beautiful, innocent little 5 year old girl who was going through Leukemia treatments. This just shouldn’t happen. This child should be out playing with her friends rather than visiting hospitals trying to stay alive.
