A Gross Physical Salute to the Fantastic Possiblity of SAVING LIVES

Well first off I would like to applaud you for taking the time to check out my Team In Training home page. Your interest in this important cause will help propel me across that finish line.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training has been around for twenty years. The funds raised by this organization are dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Thousands of people like me dedicate their time and energy each year to participate in marathons and raise money for this great cause.

To be honest, I have never run a marathon before in my life. In fact I can't say that I have ever run more then five miles in a single jaunt; which makes 26.2 miles a ginormous challenge for me. I have taken on this challenge for many reasons. At the very core of me, I just want to make a difference. However what is inspiring me to cross that finish line is my dad, Richard Moniz. Recently my dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which is a cancer of the plasma cell. So far he is enjoying excellent results from his treatment process, and will continue along this path. My dad has always shown me that I can accomplish anything as long as I put my mind to it. So I take on this challenge as he takes on his, and in the end we will both be victorious!

As I train I will keep you posted on my tales. You can stay updated on my journey by checking in with my blog periodically. If you want to see us in action, be sure to check out our sweaty training video for a few laughs.

One of my greatest supporters in my life is training to run this marathon as well. My wife Jamie, much like myself, has never run more then five miles at a time. This journey will challenge her both mentally and physically, and I look forward to our victory together. Check out her webpage as well to donate and share in her epic journey.

I know times are a bit tough, so any spare bread you can throw my way is much appreciated. If you're unsure about paying through the website, or just don't have the means, send me an email and I will get you the information on how to send it through regular mail.

Finally, I know many people are affected by cancer in one form or another. If there is someone you know who has been diagnosed with cancer, I would love to run in their honor as well. Please let me know their name(s) and I will honor them on my race day by tagging their name on my race jersey.

Thank you so much for your support!

Much Love,

Brian

"Brian, We are so proud of you!! We know that this is a BIG undertaking and we want you to know that we realize this is more than a run through the streets of San Francisco; it's a run filled with your love and support for dad. Thank you for being such a wonderful son....we are so blessed!!!!!! Love, Mom & Dad P.S. I wanted to add that, what you are doing is a huge boost to my morale (I only hope that when I am 90, and maybe on the senile side, you'll be there to run to the store for my vitamins when I run out); thank you!!!! Love, Dad "
