Race day is almost here!
*** 10/15 UPDATE: Thanks for coming to my fundraising page- the big day is finally here! The Nike Women's Marathon is this Sunday in San Franciso. I can't believe I'm about to run a Marathon through the hills of San Francisco! Thanks to all of you who have donated. For those of you who haven't- there is still time to donate to this great cause. Any amount is appreciated.
***8/25 UPDATE: So the blog is up and running again- thanks to the fine folks at Google who no longer think I'm spam! Thanks to all of you who continue to donate- your support means the world to me and I can attest from personal experience that when the going gets tough (as it did around mile 11 this week,) the knowledge that I'm running for such a great cause with so many wonderful people supporting me really does get me through. THANK YOU!
***8/11 UPDATE: Hey Guys- For some reason, blogger has marked me as a spam blog (no idea why,) so theworldaccordingtopolk.blogspot.com is offline at the moment. I was originally told 48 hours and it would be up and running again, but we're now at day 4, so I'm not sure what to say. I've filed several complaints, so I guess I just have to be patient. Rest assured I've got a couple updates to post once it is up and running again, so please check back! A little teaser- the next one will be about the Olympics and also running 9.5 miles!
Also, you guys are AWESOME! I met the $5,000 goal, so I'm going to up it to up it incrimentally now as goals get met. I am so proud of all the money we've raised together to fight Leukemia & Lymphoma!
***6/22 UPDATE: You guys are so awesome and the fundraising is going so well that I'm upping my goal again to $5,000! I really appreciate everyone's generosity and I know that we can keep raising money for this great cause!
***6/14 UPDATE! I am happy to report that thanks to the generosity of those who have already donated, I've exceeded my original fundraising minimum of $3,200, so I've raised my goal up to $4,200! So keep spreading the word so we can raise even more money for this important cause!
Thanks to those who have donated offlne by mailing me a check. If you'd prefer to donate this way, send me an email (amypolk@yahoo.com) and I'll send you the address.
Anyone who knows me is probably shocked to see that I'm running a marathon, but I am proof positive that if you set your mind to it, you can do just about anything! I started running last fall and competed in my first 5k in December. Then I decided- I want to do something I never thought I'd ever be able to do, AND I want to raise money for a really good cause in the process!
I've chosen to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco with Team In Training, to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It's a cause near and dear to my heart, because my beautiful 6 year old cousin Ashley was diagnosed June 13, 2007 with ALL T-cell Leukemia. She is currently in the maintenance phase of treatment- she has been really brave and tough and is kicking Leukemia's butt!
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, but especially for my cousin Ashley. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. You can donate with confidence that the money you donate will go directly to research and support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!
No donation is too small; any amount is so helpful in fighting this disease!
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. You can also read my training blog here:
