Racing for Justine.....

You never know what will happen the next day........ On March 30, 2009 my niece, Justine (pictured with me), was taken into Urgent Care for a nose bleed and then later that evening was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). WHAT?!?!?! Cancer is an awful disease, it will hit the good and the bad and with no reason. This is why we must continue to fight against it.

As many of you know, I've been involved with the SGV Team in Training Marathon Team for the past 3+ years as a Participant, Mentor, Captain, and Aqua Jog Coach. Team in Training (TNT) raises money fore the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I've successfully raised over $10,000 for this organization thus far. For the next 5 months, in honor of Justine, I will be training for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in September meanwhile raising $4200 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Malibu Traithlon supports the Children's Hospital in Hollywood, which is where Justine is being treated. My triathlon will consists of a 1/2 mile ocean swim, an 18 mile bike ride and a 4 mile run, all back to back to back.

The training for this event will be difficult for me. I can barely swim, I haven't been on a bike since I was 7, and I hate running (I walked all of my half marathons and marathon). But in perspective of it all, it's nothing compared to what those with cancer have to endure.

I've made many wonderful friends throughout my years with Team in Training, all of whom had their lives interrupted by cancer either personally or through a family member, with mine now included. Please support my quest to help find a cure for these cancers and help those affected by it get the help, support, the research and funds they need to fight on.
