Steve is Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to Steve's Team In Training home page!
Evan Hutchison (below), Bear Scout of Pack 2 in the Bill Hart District (Saugus), was diagnosed with leukemia in May of 2007. This diagnosis came three weeks prior to his eighth birthday. He just celebrated his 9th birthday on May 27th. This was his second birthday in a row that he was unable to have a party with all his friends, due to his non-existent immune system.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event, the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on September 14th, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I'll be swimming a half mile in the ocean (yes, open water!), bike riding 18 miles and then, as if that weren't enough, running 4 miles! It's going to be grueling but exciting and for a worthwhile cause. And did I mention the training? Almost 4 months of workouts 5-6 days a week just for this! And I may "upgrade" to the Pacific Grove Triathlon that same weekend (0.96 mile swim/24 mile bike/6 mile run) if I can raise enough funds and handle the swim (the hardest part for me).
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of Evan and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. No donation is too small!
